Job Description

Sinclair Broadcast Group, a leading diversified media company headquartered in the United States, is renowned for its extensive portfolio of television stations, multicast networks, and innovative digital content platforms. Listed on Nasdaq under the symbol SBGI, Sinclair owns and provides services to 177 television stations across 79 markets, affiliated with all major broadcast networks. The company is also recognized for owning Tennis Channel, a premier destination for tennis fans, along with multicast networks such as CHARGE, Comet, ROAR, and The Nest. In addition to traditional broadcasting, Sinclair’s AMP Media division is dedicated to producing a growing portfolio of digital content and original podcasts, showcasing the company’s commitment to delivering diverse and engaging media to a broad audience.

Within this expansive media landscape, KATU stands out as the ABC affiliate station serving the Portland, Oregon area. KATU is known for its strong local news coverage, community involvement, and quality programming tailored to meet the interests and needs of the Portland metropolitan audience. As part of Sinclair’s extensive network, KATU benefits from the resources and expertise of a large media company while maintaining a distinct and influential regional presence.

KATU is currently seeking a dynamic, energetic, and experienced Host for its live lifestyle television show, AM Northwest. This role involves being the face and voice of a popular daily morning broadcast that airs Monday through Friday from 9am to 10am. AM Northwest combines entertainment, community topics, lifestyle segments, and paid promotional content in a lively and engaging format designed to captivate a broad viewer base. The ideal candidate will have a passion for storytelling and live broadcasting, excelling in both scripted and spontaneous content delivery.

The Host’s role is multifaceted, requiring versatility and creativity. Primary duties include conducting both live and taped interviews, whether in-studio or out in the field, showcasing products, and leading segments that inform, entertain, and engage viewers. The host will also play an active role in content preparation and generation, contributing ideas that drive show development and audience engagement. Beyond the live broadcast, the Host will produce and manage daily content across multiple platforms including the station’s website and social media outlets, ensuring a consistent and vibrant presence that reaches viewers wherever they are.

Collaboration is key in this fast-paced environment. The Host participates in pre- and post-show meetings, assists with booking guests, writes show teases, and coordinates with sales clients for in-studio interviews and segment shoots. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as the Host must cultivate professional relationships with guests, viewers, and sales clients alike. Technical proficiency is also important, with expectations to create and order graphics for segments, handle live shots, and manage various digital and broadcast equipment seamlessly.

This position demands strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, sharp judgment, and flexibility to accommodate different shifts including weekends and holidays. A valid driver’s license and good driving record are required due to the need to travel for live field shots and various assignments. The role is ideal for a professional with a background in journalism or a related field, who has at least two years of on-air hosting experience, particularly in lifestyle programming. Experience with Live-U technology is a plus, further enhancing the ability to perform live segments smoothly.

Sinclair values diversity and is committed to providing equal employment opportunities without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic by law. Working at KATU means becoming part of a team that values its employees, promotes upward mobility, and fosters an open-door culture aimed at helping every individual succeed. Join KATU and Sinclair to be part of a winning media team where your talents contribute to shaping engaging lifestyle content for a vibrant community.
