The Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs is a dedicated agency committed to serving those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Among its many functions, the agency operates skilled nursing facilities like the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans' Nursing Home in Port Charlotte, Florida. This state veterans' nursing home is known for its loyal team of long-term employees and fostering a supportive and fantastic work culture. The Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs offers an excellent retirement package along with optional deferred compensation plans. Employees benefit from comprehensive health, vision, dental, disability, and other supplemental insurance options at reasonable premium rates. Additionally, the department provides paid vacation and sick leave, nine paid holidays plus a personal day, and tuition waivers available for State Universities and Community Colleges, allowing employees to take up to six credits per semester at no cost. The work environment is focused on inclusivity and support, emphasizing verification of education and employment history along with mandatory background screening and drug testing to maintain workplace integrity and safety.

The role of Therapy Aide Supervisor for Activities at the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans' Nursing Home is a critical leadership position within the skilled nursing facility. This role involves overseeing the compliance and execution of the activities department, including the development, implementation, supervision, and continuous evaluation of therapeutic recreation programs designed to improve the quality of life for veterans residing in the facility. The Supervisor ensures that activities meet the physical, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of the residents by planning comprehensive programs promoting entertainment, exercise, relaxation, creative expression, and social interaction. Reporting directly to the Nursing Home Administrator, the incumbent acts as the representative for the Activity Department on the interdisciplinary team and ensures the coordination of activities aligns with residents' care plans, treatment objectives, and MDS assessments.

This position demands a motivated professional capable of maintaining detailed progress notes within electronic health records, conducting evaluation assessments to personalize resident programs, and leading activity programs as scheduled. The Therapy Aide Supervisor directs and supervises Senior Certified Nursing Assistants, Therapy Aides, and activity staff in recreative roles while managing departmental performance standards, creating monthly calendars, and handling departmental leave and attendance. Moreover, the position requires management of all volunteer programs and donations to the state home, ensuring proper acknowledgment and timely communication with donors. Other responsibilities include tracking resident participation in activities, processing purchase orders for equipment and entertainment, serving on various committees at the nursing home, and coordinating special community events involving entities such as the American Legion and VFW. The role offers a competitive annual salary of $43,111.12, paid bi-weekly, and is overtime-eligible, demanding flexibility to work on weekends and holidays. This is a Selected Exempt Service system position, fostering a supportive work environment that embraces diversity and provides reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act as necessary. The State of Florida enforces a drug-free workplace policy, which includes drug testing based on reasonable suspicion to ensure a safe, productive work environment for all employees.
