Job Description

Dow Rummel Village is a well-established non-profit Senior Life Plan Community located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Life Enrichment & Volunteer Coordinator is a pivotal role within the Life Enrichment team at Dow Rummel Village. This full-time position operates primarily Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with some evening and weekend hours required to support resident events. The salary for this role is dependent on experience, making it an attractive opportunity for qualified professionals passionate about enhancing the quality of life for seniors.

In this capacity, the coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and promoting various events and activities designed to enhance the lives of Independent Living residents. Their role extends beyond event management to include volunteer program oversight, which involves recruiting, onboarding, supervising, and supporting volunteers who contribute to the vibrant community life. The coordinator utilizes a volunteer database to manage and match volunteers with opportunities that align with their skills and interests. A strong emphasis is placed on ensuring that all events and activities are resident-focused, adapting programming based on feedback to meet the evolving needs and preferences of the community.

This position requires exceptional organizational and communication skills, as the coordinator serves as a link between residents, staff, and volunteers. By maintaining effective communication channels and up-to-date event calendars, the coordinator keeps everyone informed about upcoming events and volunteer support needs. Their efforts directly contribute to creating a lively, supportive atmosphere where residents can truly enjoy their best lives. The role also requires a thorough understanding of recreational therapy principles and residents' rights, underscoring the coordinator's role in fostering a respectful, engaging, and inclusive senior living environment.

Job Requirements

  • At least two years of experience in event and volunteer coordination
  • Knowledge of recreational therapy principles and residents' rights
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Ability to recruit and supervise volunteers
  • Valid driver's license

Job Qualifications

  • Two years of experience providing event and volunteer coordination
  • Planning activities for senior living preferred
  • Familiarity with recreational therapy principles, practices and residents' rights
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively perform multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to recruit the right individuals for various volunteer roles

Job Duties

  • Plan, organize, market and lead events, programs, campus outings and activities for residents
  • Maintain monthly calendars for Life Enrichment events and activities, sharing the information throughout DRV communication channels
  • Maintain effective and timely communication with residents, staff and volunteers regarding upcoming events, activities and support needs
  • Adapt events and activities based on feedback collected from residents to ensure the program is meeting their needs
  • Recruit and maintain database of volunteers, understanding their ability and interests in supporting various programs, activities, events and social opportunities at DRV
  • Onboard, train and supervise the Volunteer Program
