The LifeCafe Chef plays a pivotal role in the culinary operations within the Life Time community centers by leading and coordinating the activities of the assembly and prep teams as well as other kitchen staff involved in preparing and cooking food. This position is essential in sustaining the promise of quality nutrition, consistency, and an excellent food experience that aligns with Life Time's brand and mission statement. The role demands a hands-on leader who ensures the kitchen operates efficiently, maintaining budgetary control over food costs without compromising quality. The LifeCafe Chef is responsible for enforcing food safety and hygiene standards while overseeing cooking methods and portion sizes that adhere to set recipes.

This hourly paid position offers wages starting at $21.50 and can go up to $28.75 based on experience and qualifications, offering candidates competitive pay in a dynamic food service environment. The role includes supervising training and development of cooks and dishwashers, ensuring their continuous growth through orientation, guidance, and performance feedback. Additionally, the LifeCafe Chef assists in inventory control and makes recommendations regarding hiring, promotions, and terminations to the Cafe Leader. The position requires a highly organized individual capable of managing multiple back-of-house functions including cleanliness standards, food ordering, prep list evaluations, and par level management.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience
  • Previous kitchen experience
  • ServSafe Food Manager Certification or equivalent
  • ServSafe Alcohol Safety or equivalent if applicable
  • ServSafe Allergen Certification or equivalent if applicable
  • Ability to stay calm and overcome any food production issues
  • Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit for long periods

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • 2+ years of kitchen experience
  • ServSafe Food Manager Certification or equivalent
  • ServSafe Alcohol Safety or equivalent if applicable
  • ServSafe Allergen Certification or equivalent if applicable
  • Ability to stay calm and overcome food production issues
  • Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit for long periods
  • Culinary school diploma preferred
  • Experience leading a kitchen team in ordering, inventory, cost control, and menu development preferred

Job Duties

  • Maintain daily operations of back of house including cleanliness, ordering food and supplies, evaluating prep lists and par levels
  • Observe and manage workers preparing and portioning foods to ensure recipe standards
  • Supervise, train, develop, and assess cooks and dishwashers for continuous growth
  • Maximize profit by controlling food costs through recipe adherence and proper ordering
  • Assist Cafe Leader with inventory control
  • Make hiring, promotion, and termination recommendations to Cafe Leader
