The role of the Licensed Practical Nurse is essential to the delivery of high-quality healthcare services within the correctional setting. The LPN provides direct nursing care consistent with the scope outlined by the Mississippi state nurse practice act. Reporting to the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Director of Nursing (DON), Registered Nurse (RN), Medical Director, or other designated practitioners, the LPN plays a pivotal role in monitoring patient conditions, administering medications, and implementing care plans.

This role requires a practical nurse who is not only technically skilled but also compassionate and patient-focused, as caring for detainees requires sensitivity and diligence. The Licensed Practical Nurse must perform a wide range of nursing duties, including monitoring vital signs, caring for wounds, documenting care in medical records, and educating patients on health maintenance and promotion. The work schedule is full-time with day and night shifts available, providing flexibility in scheduling.
