Job Description
Protocall Services is a nationally recognized leader in behavioral healthcare and crisis intervention, providing critical support to organizations throughout the United States and Canada. With a strong track record spanning over several years, Protocall Services has been honored with "Top Workplace" awards for five consecutive years in recognition of its mission-driven culture, commitment to employee well-being, and excellence in service. As a remote-first organization headquartered in Portland, Oregon, Protocall Services supports nearly 700 different organizations including Community Mental Health Centers, Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics, Managed Behavioral Healthcare Organizations, university counseling centers, and Employee Assistance Programs. The company specializes in delivering timely, compassionate, and effective telephonic crisis support services that align with a brief immediate support model, ensuring individuals facing behavioral health challenges receive proper and prompt assistance.
The role of Crisis Counselor at Protocall Services is a critical front-line position involving telephonic first response to individuals experiencing a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and situational challenges. This full-time remote role requires the counselor to be a compassionate, empathic, and professional listener who can deliver emotional support, conduct risk assessments, provide crisis intervention, and facilitate stabilization services to callers in distress. While many calls involve acute crisis situations, counselors also address supportive or administrative inquiries with equal professionalism and a solution-focused approach. The role demands individuals with strong emotional resilience who can adeptly multitask while maintaining clarity of thought, accuracy, and adherence to HIPAA compliance standards. Working remotely but as integral members of a wider team, counselors operate across shifts that include weekends and holidays to provide 24/7 support. The position offers a competitive base pay ranging from $28.55 to $32.55 per hour, with additional incentives such as shift differentials, weekend shift bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits package.
Successful candidates will participate in a six-week paid virtual training program designed to build their crisis care skills through a carefully structured onboarding process, including role-playing, mentored live calls, and foundational crisis intervention knowledge. Following training, counselors will transition to a set schedule in collaboration with the Scheduling Department. This role requires Oregon residency, given licensure and state-specific regulatory requirements. Protocall Services values diversity and employment equity, fostering an inclusive work environment that respects individual differences and promotes professional growth opportunities. By joining Protocall Services as a Crisis Counselor, individuals will be part of a highly respected organization making a profound impact on behavioral health outcomes while advancing their careers in a supportive and dynamic setting.
