Job Description
Protocall Services is a nationally recognized leader specializing in behavioral healthcare and crisis intervention services across the United States and Canada. With a commitment to excellence and a mission-driven approach, Protocall Services supports nearly 700 organizations nationwide, including Community Mental Health Centers, Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics, Managed Behavioral Healthcare Organizations, university counseling centers, and Employee Assistance Programs. They follow a brief immediate support model to provide timely and effective assistance to individuals in need. The organization is headquartered in Portland, Oregon, and operates as a remote-first company, emphasizing a culture of compassion, integrity, and employee well-being. This dedication has earned them "Top Workplace" honors for five consecutive years, highlighting their strong workplace environment.
The role of Crisis Counselor at Protocall Services involves serving as a telephonic first responder who delivers compassionate emotional support, risk assessment, crisis intervention, and stabilization services to callers. As a professional providing these services remotely, you will encounter a diverse spectrum of callers experiencing emotional, behavioral, and situational challenges. The role demands emotional resilience, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to multitask efficiently while maintaining clarity and professionalism at all times. Not all calls handled in this role are crises; some calls are administrative or supportive, yet each call requires a high level of professional care and solution-focused attention.
The Crisis Counselor is responsible for empathetic and ethical telephonic support, building rapport with callers, assessing emotional and behavioral health needs, carrying out crisis interventions, and maintaining accurate clinical documentation. This position also requires the ability to navigate multiple software systems simultaneously in a HIPAA-compliant environment, ensuring confidentiality and security from a stable home workspace. The position is full-time and remote, specifically requiring residency in Arizona. Compensation ranges from $28.55 to $32.55 per hour, complemented by various incentives such as hourly pay increases for weekend availability and shift differentials.
Protocall Services provides a comprehensive onboarding and training program, including a six-week paid virtual training cohort with hands-on skill development, role-playing, and mentored call work. This structured approach ensures that all counselors are well-prepared to meet the demanding needs of their role and provide the highest quality of care. Regular scheduling, including availability on weekends and holidays, is a requirement post-training.
This is an excellent career opportunity for behavioral health professionals holding appropriate licensure in Arizona, such as LMSP, LAC, LMFT, LCSW, or LPC, with a minimum of one year of direct experience in behavioral health, counseling, or social services. The role offers not only a chance to make a meaningful impact through crisis intervention and support but also opportunities for professional growth and advancement within a supportive and well-established organization.
