The Maintenance Technician role at bp is integral to supporting the company's operational excellence and sustainability goals. This position involves working within a team-based environment to operate and maintain plant work areas and equipment to ensure they are in outstanding condition. The Maintenance Tech is responsible for delivering high-quality products and services to internal and external customers by ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of production equipment. This function requires strong planning skills, understanding and adhering to safety and contractor assurance programs, and executing daily maintenance duties in line with bp’s quality and safety procedures.

The Maintenance Technician will utilize preventative maintenance systems, perform equipment setup, testing, and adjustments, and ensure all maintenance activities are properly documented. Responsibilities also include effective communication and information transfer between shifts, making routine operational decisions as per plant protocols, and minimizing unplanned downtime by anticipating and resolving equipment issues promptly. The role also demands collaboration with suppliers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to facilitate problem-solving, implement innovations, and support equipment upgrades or modifications.

This position requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, strong multitasking skills, and sound judgement to recommend practical solutions that support business operations. The Maintenance Tech also plays a vital role in providing specialist support during operations, including off-shift assistance when necessary, while strictly following health, safety, security, and environmental policies.

This position is onsite with no remote work or travel requirements and is not eligible for relocation assistance. Job Requirements

  • must have an up-to-date TWIC card
  • able to demonstrate effective use of computer programs such as email, data entry, and document review
  • secondary education a plus
  • minimum of 5+ years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • background as an Electrician, Entry-Level Engineer, Industrial Maintenance Technician, or experience applying Mechanical Engineering principles
  • strong interpersonal communication skills
  • able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • ability to clearly communicate ideas, concepts, and issues in verbal and written formats
  • demonstrated interpersonal effectiveness including active listening and valuing diverse perspectives

Job Qualifications

  • Secondary education a plus

  • minimum of 5+ years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • background as an Electrician, Entry-Level Engineer, Industrial Maintenance Technician, or experience applying Mechanical Engineering principles
  • experienced working with high-speed production equipment, warehousing, shipping, or industrial processes such as blending or polymer operations
  • strong interpersonal communication skills
  • ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • ability to clearly communicate ideas, concepts, and issues in both verbal and written formats
  • demonstrated interpersonal effectiveness including active listening and valuing diverse perspectives
  • strong multitasking skills and sound judgment with the ability to understand business needs and recommend practical solutions

Job Duties

  • Strong planning skills
  • understands and stays in sync with Contractor assurance Program (CAP)
  • performs daily duties according to the Job Description and QSI Procedures for work assigned
  • experienced with preventative maintenance systems
  • experienced in operating and maintaining production equipment
  • ability to operate, set-up, test, and adjust equipment after installations and breakdown conditions
  • document all maintenance in the maintenance tracking system
  • assures transfer of critical operational information that occurred during the shift to the other team members, the Shift Facilitator, and the next shift
  • makes routine decisions vital to operate equipment as defined by Plant policies and procedures
  • minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate, and solve problems in a timely manner, and find opportunities for improvement
  • provide function expertise for new projects, equipment, modifications/installations, and material modifications
  • work with suppliers/OEM to assist in problem solving and implementation of innovations/upgrades
  • provide input for innovation plant equipment and systems
  • provide specialist support to the shift-based teams during operations including off-shift support as necessary
  • follows all HSS&E and Environmental policies and practices
