The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) is a leading nonprofit environmental advocacy organization firmly rooted in the southern United States. The Legal Administrative Assistant II position located in the Atlanta, GA office offers a full-time, non-exempt role with wages ranging from $27.89 to $32.22 per hour, depending on experience. This hybrid work position provides the flexibility of remote work up to two days per week, balancing in-office collaboration with telecommuting convenience. Reporting to the Georgia Office Manager and working closely within the administrative team, this role supports the legal department, primarily assisting SELC attorneys with litigation tasks and office operations. Responsibilities include preparing and submitting filings in state and federal courts, researching local court rules, managing legal documents and deadlines, gathering and organizing evidentiary materials for trials and hearings, conducting factual research, and supporting administrative functions such as scheduling, travel arrangements, and meeting coordination.
In addition to the core legal support duties, the assistant will also participate in logistical handling for judicial and administrative proceedings such as depositions and mediations. They will prepare concise summaries of records obtained through public information requests and assist with professional presentations using PowerPoint. Effective communication with expert witnesses, managing retainer agreements, and tracking invoices are also critical tasks. This role demands a high level of organization, strong multitasking skills, and the ability to efficiently navigate multiple software applications like Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- minimum of 2 years of litigation support experience
- high proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Provides legal support to SELC attorneys including preparing and submitting filings in state and federal courts and before federal and state agencies
- researches local court rules
- proofreads and edits legal documents
- prepares attachments and exhibits
- supports litigation related tasks
- maintains files including pleadings, transcripts, memos, and correspondence
- computes and calendars court deadlines
- assists with logistical and evidentiary preparations for judicial and administrative proceedings including depositions, mediations, hearings and trials
- assists in collection and review of documents and records obtained through public records requests including writing summaries or memos
- performs factual research and synthesizes information into memos, reports, and fact sheets for legal and policy use
- assists with PowerPoint presentations for internal and external use
- communicates with experts, assists with retainer agreements, and submits and tracks invoices
- arranges travel and assists with coding expenses
- plans and coordinates meetings and events including reservations, logistics, and setup/breakdown support
- provides general administrative support including printing, copying, scanning, mailing, and scheduling
- participates in and takes notes during conference calls and meetings as needed
- helps respond to inquiries from the public for legal assistance or representation when needed
- assists with backup coverage across legal assistant team
- assists with rotating coffee and kitchen duties
