PlayCV is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization committed to creating enriching opportunities that promote academic and personal growth for students through diverse activities centered around joyful play. Operating primarily within the Castro Valley Unified School District's elementary and middle schools, PlayCV offers an array of enrichment programs that introduce children to new subjects and deepen their understanding of topics of interest. The TKK Lead Instructor role at PlayCV is vital, providing leadership and direction to a team of support instructors responsible for delivering high-quality before and after-school programs to young children aged 4-6 years. This position requires an individual skilled in managing a team while facilitating a variety of enrichment activities such as arts and crafts, outdoor games, and opportunities for social development. The instructor is expected to foster an environment where curiosity, exploration, and critical thinking flourish, enhancing both social-emotional development and educational engagement. The position supports a structured yet dynamic work atmosphere where multitasking and problem-solving are essential, alongside expertise in Early Childhood Development best practices.

The work schedule for this role spans from 8am to 6pm on school days, with hours ranging between 20 and 35 per week, including a summer program. Pay is competitive, offering between $26.00 and $28.00 per hour. Beyond regular teaching duties, the TKK Lead Instructor plays a pivotal role as a safety manager, ensuring the wellbeing of all students at the site and acting as a critical liaison between parents, school personnel, and PlayCV leadership. This role is unique in its combination of administrative responsibility, team leadership, and hands-on instructional involvement. The position requires strong communication skills to maintain positive relationships with parents, staff, and students, and a dedication to continuous improvement through feedback and collaboration with program developers and inclusivity teams. Overall, the TKK Lead Instructor helps ensure that each child's experience in PlayCV's programs is safe, engaging, and growth-oriented.

Job Requirements

Have a high school diploma or equivalent GED
Minimum of 12 ECE units or currently in process
Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred or 2+ years equivalent classroom experience while pursuing degree
Minimum of 6 months experience supervising or leading staff of at least 3
Able to commit to working Monday through Friday at least 6 hours per shift including Summer Program
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including de-escalation
Ability to maintain communication with parents, Team Captain, Coach and Directors
Dedication to PlayCV's mission
Positive modeling of behavior
Spanish preferred
Mandarin or Cantonese preferred
Child Development Associate Certification preferred
Ability to commute to Castro Valley, CA required

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

Lead and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum provided and ensure alignment with the needs and interests of TK and Kindergarten-aged children
Lead enrichment activities, providing hands-on guidance and support to students
Encourage curiosity, exploration, and critical thinking skills
Ensure the safety of our students which includes maintaining appropriate student-to-instructor ratios, maintaining the schedule for all students, monitoring students to ensure compliance with PlayCV program guidelines
Maintain point of contact to TK/K Instructors to help guide the team on issues of concern such as preventing accidents, cleaning, maintaining and ensuring proper use of PlayCV facilities and equipment, reporting and recording details of incidents to parents and team captain, and enforcing PlayCV rules
Maintain close contact with parents/guardians involved with youth participants in collaboration with PlayCV leadership
Collaborate with other program instructors to coordinate schedules, share resources, and ensure consistency in program delivery
Attend and participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in early childhood education
Establish and maintain a positive and supportive classroom environment
Implement effective behavior management strategies, modeling positive social interactions and conflict resolution skills
Serve as a team leader to organize daily schedules, assign roles, and ensure smooth program operations
Delegate tasks effectively
Manage TK/K staff roles and adjust according to curriculum or student needs
Communicate and implement best practices in early childhood education on site, ensuring all activities support developmental needs of TK and Kindergarten-aged children
Work closely with the TK/K team coach to align program goals and seek guidance to enhance program quality
Direct communication with Team Captain to report staff, safety, disciplinary or behavioral issues
