Job Description

The Ned's Club Washington DC is an exclusive members' club set within the iconic Riggs Building, located in the heart of Washington, D.C., close to the White House. Part of a global collection of hotels, clubs, spas, and restaurants known as The Ned, this establishment offers a unique blend of historical ambiance and contemporary luxury. Established in 2025 as the fourth location after the successful launch in London in 2017, The Ned’s Club is renowned for its distinctive approach to hospitality, creating spaces where like-minded individuals can meet, work, and have memorable experiences. The club spans three floors of a neoclassical style building and boasts multiple dining venues including a Rooftop Terrace and the Loft Restaurant, both offering stunning views of significant landmarks such as the White House, US Treasury, and Washington Monument. The club also features elegant spaces like a Founder’s Dining Room, The Library, Drawing Room, Gallery, and Conservatory, alongside private event spaces on a dedicated floor.

The Lead Sushi Line Cook role at The Ned's Club Washington DC is a pivotal position within the culinary team, focused on maintaining the exceptional standards of sushi preparation and presentation the club is known for. This full-time position offers a competitive hourly wage of $32, reflecting the expertise and responsibility the role demands. As a Lead Sushi Line Cook, you will be integral to the daily operations of Kaia, one of the club’s three restaurants, helping to deliver remarkable dining experiences to members and guests. The role goes beyond cooking; it involves mentoring, training, and leading the sushi kitchen team to ensure quality, consistency, and efficiency in food preparation and service.

Key responsibilities include overseeing sushi cooks, managing station setup and breakdown, maintaining prep lists and inventory levels, and working closely with kitchen leadership and front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service. You will also have the opportunity to participate in menu development, bringing creative ideas to enhance seasonal offerings. The position requires someone with at least three years of professional sushi experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to perform well under pressure in a dynamic kitchen environment.

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional sushi experience
  • Calm demeanor with passion for exceptional food
  • Creative flair and openness to assist in menu creation
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Strong knowledge of sushi prep and service
  • ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification preferred
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure
  • Willingness to work varied shifts including mornings and evenings
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods and handle physical demands
  • Eligible to work in the US

Job Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional sushi experience
  • Proven leadership ability in a kitchen environment
  • Strong working knowledge of all stages of sushi preparation, service, training, order and prep lists
  • ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification preferred
  • Culinary degree or formal training a plus but not required
  • Ability to multitask and perform well under pressure
  • Able to vary shifts to include AM and PM service
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift, pull, and push up to 35 pounds regularly

Job Duties

  • Keep guests and customers well fed by preparing and serving restaurant menus
  • Oversee and direct sushi cooks during food preparation and service
  • Train, mentor, and support new and existing sushi team
  • Act as shift lead in the absence of a Sous Chef or Executive Chef
  • Prepare, cook, and plate menu items consistently and accurately
  • Ensure portion sizes, presentation, and quality meet company standards
  • Assist with expediting orders to ensure timely service
  • Set up and stock stations with necessary supplies including fish butchery, rice prep, sauce and garnish prep, and delegation of tasks
  • Maintain prep lists, par levels, and readiness for upcoming shifts
  • Break down, clean, and sanitize stations after service
  • Work closely with chefs, line cooks, and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service
  • Communicate effectively with the team to maintain efficiency, morale, and team building
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and menu development when requested
