Job Description

Food City is a privately held, family-owned grocery store chain committed to running the best store in town. With a long-standing tradition of community involvement and support, Food City encourages its associates to actively participate in local civic organizations, fostering a strong connection to the communities it serves. The company places great value on its associates, considering them its greatest asset. Currently, over 13 percent of the company is owned by employees through an employee stock ownership plan, which promotes a deep sense of ownership and pride among the team. Food City offers a variety of career paths, whether you are passionate about baking, accounting, trucking, or customer service. The company also provides flexible scheduling options to ensure associates have quality time for their families and personal interests. This family-oriented environment, combined with comprehensive benefits and opportunities for growth, makes Food City an excellent place to build a rewarding career.

The sushi chef role at Food City is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about producing high-quality, fresh sushi in a dynamic retail environment. This position is integral to the in-store fresh sushi program and involves direct interaction with customers through sushi preparation and sampling. The ideal candidate must be outgoing, friendly, and able to engage customers, answering questions and providing an exceptional experience while preparing sushi in an open environment. The role requires maintaining a clean, well-organized workspace, following strict food safety standards, and ensuring consistent product quality. Responsibilities include preparing finfish, shellfish, and fresh produce, assembling and labeling sushi, and creating custom orders to meet customer requests. Additionally, the sushi chef will be responsible for training and supporting other team members, monitoring ingredient temperatures and shelf lives, assisting in inventory management, and promoting the sushi program through regular customer sampling. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys interacting with people, is detail-oriented, and has a strong commitment to food quality and safety. The position offers the chance to work for a company that values employee ownership, community involvement, and career development.
