Job Description
American Cruise Lines is a distinguished cruise line company that operates exclusively within the United States, offering a unique and intimate small-ship experience across America's rivers. Known for its state-of-the-art riverboats and iconic paddlewheelers that accommodate no more than 200 guests, the company focuses on providing an exceptional travel journey that blends comfort, luxury, and the rich heritage of American river travel. As the leading U.S.-based river cruise line, American Cruise Lines has been steadily expanding its fleet with new vessels, positioning itself for continued growth and enhanced guest experiences. The company’s dedication to excellence, combined with a deep respect for the country's history and landscapes, sets it apart as a premier choice for travelers seeking a distinctive way to explore America's waterways.
The Lead Sous Chef role at American Cruise Lines is an exciting opportunity for culinary professionals passionate about delivering high-quality cuisine in a unique setting. This role is integral to the culinary team and is responsible for creating a variety of delightful dishes for guests as well as preparing nutritious and well-balanced meals for crew members, who rely entirely on onboard dining. With a keen focus on fresh, locally inspired ingredients and an emphasis on accommodating dietary restrictions and allergies, the Lead Sous Chef collaborates closely with the Executive Chef and other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations and exceptional food quality throughout the day.
Candidates for this position will bring at least five years of culinary experience from full-service resorts, hotels, or cruise ships and preferably hold a ServSafe Manager Certification alongside a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). The role demands exemplary leadership, multitasking capabilities, and the ability to maintain composure under pressure in a fast-paced environment. The working conditions include long shifts onboard a vessel that is continuously in motion, requiring physical stamina and flexibility. The position is full-time and exempt, offering a competitive daily rate along with comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, and 401(k) plans with company match. Additionally, American Cruise Lines covers travel, room and board, uniforms, and training costs. This role is ideal for chefs who thrive in dynamic environments and are committed to creating exceptional culinary experiences that reflect the company’s core values of optimism, commitment, patriotism, and merit.
