Job Description

Harpoon Brewery is a celebrated craft brewery located in Boston, Massachusetts, known for its vibrant and welcoming atmosphere that celebrates craft beer culture and hospitality. Established as a cornerstone in the local craft beer community, Harpoon Brewery offers a unique combination of a brewery, taproom, restaurant, and beer garden. This dynamic environment is perfect for those enthusiastic about the craft beer industry and delivering memorable guest experiences. The brewery is part of Barrel One Collective, a growing craft beverage and hospitality company that focuses on creating exceptional experiences for guests while fostering a supportive, respectful workplace where employees feel valued.

The Lead Server/Bartender role at Harpoon Brewery is pivotal in creating and maintaining the lively and energetic front-of-house environment that guests have come to expect. This position is ideal for energetic hospitality professionals who thrive in fast-paced settings such as restaurants, taprooms, or beer gardens. As a Lead Server/Bartender, the candidate will serve as a role model and mentor to the front-of-house team by supporting daily operations and coaching teammates to deliver exceptional service. Through a combination of hospitality skills, knowledge of craft beers, and leadership capabilities, the Lead Server/Bartender ensures guests receive a warm welcome and engaging experience.

In this leadership role, responsibility includes welcoming guests, accurately taking orders using Toast POS, and delivering food and beverages promptly while maintaining high service standards. The Lead Server/Bartender recommends food pairings and seasonal beer selections thoughtfully, helping guests get the most out of their visit. Additionally, the role involves sharing the story and culture of Harpoon Brewery, enhancing guest engagement and satisfaction. Proactively anticipating guest needs and addressing concerns promptly contributes to a positive atmosphere.

Beyond guest interactions, this leadership role involves acting as a shift lead during service times, helping with opening and closing procedures, and training new staff members. The Lead Server/Bartender leads by example, especially during busy periods, showcasing a calm and positive attitude. Collaboration is key — the position supports communication between front-of-house staff and management to sustain smooth operation and a respectful, accountable team culture.

Operational duties include maintaining a clean and well-stocked service environment, managing cash and credit transactions with accuracy, and assisting with inventory tasks and event support. This position also contributes to retail sales of beer-to-go and merchandise. Staying informed about brewery promotions, seasonal beers, and events is essential to keep the team and guests engaged.

An ideal candidate is 21 or older, possesses TIPS certification or is willing to obtain it, and has 1 to 2 years of relevant experience in restaurant, bar, brewery, or hospitality roles. Leadership experience is preferred, along with excellent communication skills and a passion for craft beer and teamwork. This role demands a friendly, dependable professional who is comfortable leading by example and excited about working in a busy brewery or restaurant setting. Physical stamina to stand, walk, lift, and carry heavy items is required.

This is a tipped, hourly, non-exempt leadership position that focuses on customer service and team support rather than managerial responsibilities such as hiring or budgeting. The work schedule involves nights, weekends, and holidays, adapting between indoor and outdoor service depending on the season. Overall, this position offers a unique opportunity to grow professionally within a respected craft beverage company committed to great hospitality and memorable guest experiences.
