The Surfing Fox, located in The Pierside Hotel, is a vibrant restaurant that embodies the spirit of California cuisine melded with the laid-back vibe of vintage surf culture. The Surfing Fox is currently seeking a Lead Server to join their dynamic team. This role requires an individual with creativity and passion for hospitality, someone who thrives in delivering excellent guest service while inspiring their peers. The Lead Server acts as a crucial bridge between the serving staff and management, ensuring that all service standards and procedures are meticulously followed according to the Corner Office and Sage Restaurant Group (SRG) expectations. This position involves supervising and guiding servers to perform at their highest level, maintaining cleanliness and organization of stations, and managing various service-related tasks during shifts.
The Lead Server position requires a flexible work schedule including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet the operational demands of the restaurant. Responsibilities include setup and tear down of service areas, coaching team members in real time, managing guest interactions, and assisting supervisory staff in the absence of a manager. Job Requirements
- High school education or equivalent
- One to two years of related experience
- Basic knowledge of customer service principles
- Knowledge of food service function
- Understanding of restaurant and kitchen operations
- Ability to work flexible shifts including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays
- Physical ability to lift between 20 and 100 lbs
- Manual coordination to handle service tasks
- Ability to bend, kneel, and maneuver in narrow spaces
- Capability to stand continuously during shifts
- Moderate comprehension and literacy to read records and special requests
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Strong organizational skills
- Capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to use tact and understanding in customer service situations
Job Qualifications
- High school education or equivalent
- One to two years experience in a related position within this company or other organization(s)
- Basic knowledge of customer service principles
- Understanding of food service function
- Familiarity with restaurant and kitchen operations
Job Duties
- Full set up and tear down of each service
- Lead and guide fellow servers to be the best
- Keep station neat and clean while servicing guests per established policies and procedures
- Work flexible shifts including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays
- Set tables in assigned area correctly and uniformly
- Follow all opening and closing checklists and ongoing side work to ensure maximum efficiency
- Coach fellow team members and assist in the moment when manager is not present
- Break down buffets or other special food service tables and equipment
- Assist management team in all areas as a supervisor when manager is not present
- Greet and serve guests following guidelines set by policies and procedures regarding food and beverage service
- Keep kitchen and storage areas clean according to management policies
- Communicate needs and concerns clearly and timely to Manager on Duty
- Complete all set-up and closing duties
- Assist guests and act as supervisor when needed
- Be vocal in pre-shifts and throughout shifts helping other staff stay on point and deliver on the brand promise
