The role of Lead Sales Associate at Dollar General is a vital position ensuring the smooth operation and success of a retail store. This position involves maintaining a clean, well-organized store environment while prioritizing customer satisfaction with a customer-first approach. The Lead Sales Associate performs functions directly related to sales including assisting customers in locating and purchasing merchandise, operating cash registers, stocking and arranging merchandise, cleaning the store, and implementing store displays. They play a leadership role by stepping in to perform duties typically managed by the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager in their absence. This position requires an individual who is proactive, personable, and capable of multitasking within a fast-paced retail setting. The Lead Sales Associate supports store profitability by adhering to company policies, ensuring merchandise is presented according to planograms, and protecting company assets. This role offers an excellent opportunity for candidates with some supervisory experience who are looking to develop their leadership skills in retail management. Working conditions include frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 55 pounds, and occasional exposure to outside weather conditions. Overall, this role is designed for a motivated individual who can provide excellent customer service while driving operational excellence to enhance the shopping experience at Dollar General.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • six months of supervisory experience or related experience or training preferred

Job Qualifications

  • Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • understanding of safety policies and practices
  • ability to read and follow planogram and merchandise presentation guides
  • ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and percentages
  • ability to perform cash register functions
  • knowledge of cash, facility and safety control policies and practices
  • knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control
  • ability to drive own vehicle to the bank to deposit money

Job Duties

  • Provide superior customer service leadership
  • greet and assist customers
  • operate cash register and scanner to itemize and total customer purchases, collect payment and make change, bag merchandise, and assist customers as necessary
  • follow company work processes to receive, open and unpack boxes, cartons and totes of merchandise
  • stock merchandise, restock and rotate merchandise on shelves, and build merchandise displays
  • clean the store, including taking out trash, dusting and mopping floors, cleaning restroom and stockroom, and setting up sidewalk displays
  • assist in implementation and maintenance of planograms
  • open and close the store under direction of the Store Manager
  • perform additional duties typically done by the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager in their absence
