Job Description
Dollar General Corporation is a leading American retail company with a rich history spanning over 80 years. Renowned for its commitment to serving communities, Dollar General operates thousands of convenient neighborhood stores across the United States. These stores offer everyday low prices on a wide range of frequently used and replenished products including food, snacks, health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, basic apparel, housewares, and seasonal items. The company’s mission statement, "Serving Others", reflects its dedication not only to customers but also to its employees. Dollar General values the unique strengths and perspectives each individual brings to the company, fostering an inclusive work environment where employees can grow and succeed.
Dollar General provides a variety of career opportunities in its store locations, distribution centers, store support centers, and private fleet teams. The company prides itself on being more than just a retail company, emphasizing how each employee’s contribution truly makes a difference in its ongoing journey. Whether you are seeking to launch a new career path or to advance in retail management, Dollar General offers a supportive work culture with a focus on personal and professional development.
The role of Lead Sales Associate at Dollar General is crafted for individuals passionate about customer service and leadership in a retail setting. This position entails maintaining a clean, well-organized, and customer-friendly store environment while maximizing store profitability and ensuring customer satisfaction. The Lead Sales Associate not only performs the duties of a Sales Associate, such as assisting customers in locating and purchasing merchandise and operating cash registers, but also takes on a leadership role in the absence of the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager. This role is critical in supporting daily store operations and serving as a trusted point of contact for both customers and team members.
As a Lead Sales Associate, you are expected to provide superior customer service leadership by greeting and assisting customers warmly. You will manage cash register operations, including scanning items, processing payments, and making change, while maintaining an organized checkout area. Additionally, the role involves handling merchandise efficiently by receiving, unpacking, stocking, restocking, and rotating products on shelves to ensure the store’s presentation meets company standards.
Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the store is a significant aspect of the job. This includes cleaning floors, restrooms, and stockrooms, as well as setting up sidewalk displays and assisting in the implementation of planograms to optimize product placement. The Lead Sales Associate must also open and close the store under guidance from the Store Manager and assume additional managerial duties when necessary.
This position requires a blend of physical stamina, organizational skills, and interpersonal abilities. Duties require frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 40 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds. Handling equipment such as handheld scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, dollies, and various carts is routine. The work environment is fast-paced, with moderate noise levels, occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions, and occasional driving for bank deposits and meetings.
Dollar General values its employees and offers a robust benefits package designed to support physical, mental, and financial well-being. Benefits include health insurance options, supplemental programs, a 401(k) savings plan, paid sick leave (where legally required), vacation time, paid maternity and parental leave, among others. Starting pay for this role ranges from $15.80 to $16.30 per hour, reflecting the company’s commitment to fair compensation.
Joining Dollar General means becoming part of a team that values its people, serves communities, and strives for excellence in retail. The Lead Sales Associate position is an excellent opportunity for those interested in advancing their retail careers while contributing to the mission of serving others and making a meaningful impact every day.
