The role of Lead Sales Associate at Dollar General is a pivotal one, embodying the company’s customer-first philosophy and its commitment to operational excellence. Lead Sales Associates play a multifaceted role which includes assisting customers with locating and purchasing merchandise, managing cash register operations, stocking and organizing merchandise, and ensuring the store meets all cleanliness and safety standards. Positioned as a leadership figure in the absence of the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager, the Lead Sales Associate is entrusted with handling additional responsibilities that influence store profitability and customer satisfaction. This role is ideal for candidates who possess strong interpersonal skills, can lead by example, and are comfortable performing physical tasks such as lifting and stocking, as well as administrative duties like cash handling and compliance with company work processes. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • six months of supervisory experience or related experience or training preferred
  • ability to perform frequent walking and standing
  • ability to frequently bend, stoop and kneel to run checkout station, stock merchandise and unload trucks
  • ability to frequently handle merchandise and equipment such as handheld scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, merchandise containers, two-wheel dollies, u-boats, and rolltainers
  • ability to frequently and properly lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift up to 55 pounds
  • ability to occasionally climb up to six feet using a step ladder
  • ability to work in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise
  • occasional exposure to outside weather conditions
  • ability to provide own transportation for bank deposits, meetings and store visits

Job Qualifications

  • effective interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • understanding of safety policies and practices
  • ability to read and follow planogram and merchandise presentation guides
  • ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and percentages
  • ability to perform cash register functions
  • knowledge of cash, facility and safety control policies and practices
  • knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control
  • ability to drive own vehicle to the bank to deposit money

Job Duties

  • provide superior customer service leadership
  • greet and assist customers
  • operate cash register and scanner to itemize and total customer’s purchase, collect payment and make change, bag merchandise
  • follow company work processes to receive, open and unpack boxes, stock, restock and rotate merchandise, build merchandise displays
  • clean the store, take out trash, dust and mop floors, clean restroom and stockroom, help set up sidewalk displays
  • assist in implementation and maintenance of planograms
  • open and close the store under direction of the store manager
  • perform additional duties typically performed by the store manager or assistant store manager in their absence
