Dollar General is currently inviting applications for the role of Lead Sales Associate, a pivotal position within the retail environment focused on ensuring a clean, well-organized store with customer service as the top priority. This role operates as both a frontline sales associate and a team leader who steps up to perform managerial duties in the absence of the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager. Lead Sales Associates are tasked with multiple responsibilities, including assisting customers in locating and purchasing merchandise, operating cash registers, stocking shelves, maintaining store cleanliness, and managing store opening and closing procedures under managerial guidance. This position plays a key part in maximizing store profitability and enhancing customer satisfaction while protecting company assets. Employees in this role develop leadership skills and gain valuable retail experience, potentially opening paths to further advancement within the company.

The ideal candidate for the Lead Sales Associate position will have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least six months of supervisory experience or related training. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary, as is an understanding of safety policies and the ability to operate cash registers accurately. Other important skills include the ability to read and implement planograms, use mathematical calculations proficiently for sales and cash handling, and an understanding of cash and safety control policies. The role involves physical demands such as frequent walking, standing, bending, and lifting up to 55 pounds, and requires occasional driving to make bank deposits and attend meetings. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • six months of supervisory experience or related experience/training preferred
  • ability to perform frequent walking and standing
  • ability to perform frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling
  • ability to handle merchandise and equipment such as handheld scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, merchandise containers, two-wheel dollies, U-boats, and rolltainers
  • ability to lift up to 55 pounds occasionally
  • ability to climb using step ladder up to six feet
  • ability to work in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise level
  • availability for occasional exposure to outside weather conditions
  • availability for occasional or regular driving and providing own transportation to make bank deposits, attend management meetings, and travel to other stores

Job Qualifications

  • ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages
  • ability to perform cash register functions
  • knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices
  • knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control
  • ability to drive own vehicle to the bank to deposit money

Job Duties

  • Provide superior customer service leadership
  • greet and assist customers
  • operate cash register and scanner to itemize and total customer’s purchase, collect payment from customers and make change, bag merchandise, and assist customers with merchandise as necessary
  • follow company work processes to receive, open and unpack boxes, cartons and totes of merchandise
  • stock merchandise, restock and rotate merchandise on shelves, and build merchandise displays
  • clean the store
  • take out trash
  • dust and mop store floors
  • clean restroom and stockroom
  • help set up sidewalk displays
  • assist in implementation and maintenance of planograms
  • open and close the store under specific direction of the Store Manager
  • perform additional duties typically performed by the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager, in their absence
