The role of the Lead Sales Associate at Dollar General is a critical position that supports the overall management and operation of the store with a customer-first approach. The Lead Sales Associate is primarily responsible for maintaining a clean and well-organized store environment while providing exceptional customer service. This role involves assisting customers with locating and purchasing merchandise and operating the cash register efficiently to process transactions. Furthermore, the Lead Sales Associate handles stocking duties, recovering merchandise, and implementing store merchandising plans such as planograms to ensure that product displays are attractive and strategically placed to maximize sales.

In addition to regular sales associate duties, the Lead Sales Associate takes on leadership responsibilities during the absence of the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager, including opening and closing the store under specific guidance. This position requires the ability to adapt quickly to a fast-paced work environment, manage multiple tasks efficiently, and maintain a high level of store profitability and customer satisfaction. The individual in this role must be capable of handling heavy lifting and physically demanding tasks such as bending, stooping, and kneeling frequently, as well as operating various store equipment and tools safely and effectively. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • six months of supervisory experience or related experience or training preferred
  • effective interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • understanding of safety policies and practices
  • ability to read and follow planogram and merchandise presentation guides
  • ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages
  • ability to perform cash register functions
  • knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices
  • knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control
  • ability to drive own vehicle to the bank to deposit money

Job Duties

  • Provide superior customer service leadership
  • greet and assist customers
  • operate cash register and scanner to itemize and total customer’s purchase, collect payment from customers and make change, bag merchandise, and assist customers with merchandise as necessary
  • follow company work processes to receive, open and unpack boxes, cartons and totes of merchandise
  • stock merchandise, restock and rotate merchandise on shelves, and build merchandise displays
  • clean the store
  • take out trash
  • dust and mop store floors
  • clean restroom and stockroom
  • and help set up sidewalk displays
  • assist in implementation and maintenance of planograms
  • open and close the store under specific direction of the Store Manager
  • perform additional duties typically performed by the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager, in their absence
