The Lead Production Technician role at Air Liquide Advanced Materials is a pivotal position based at the Fremont, CA location. This role involves leadership responsibilities on the production floor, including directing shift activities and supporting supervisors in day-to-day operations. The Lead is expected to guide the production team to meet schedule goals through effective coordination and communication. Acting as a technical subject matter expert, the Lead ensures safe and efficient operation and troubleshooting of chemical manufacturing processes.

This role requires a proactive individual capable of fostering teamwork and empowerment in their shift team. The Lead Production Technician conducts start-of-shift meetings to set priorities and communicate essential information, while also serving as the on-shift resource for quality assurance and process-related issues. They play an integral part in coaching team members, facilitating their skills development, and reinforcing adherence to work processes and safety standards.

Safety is a top priority for this role, with responsibilities including maintaining compliance with environmental, safety, and health regulations, signing work permits, and participating actively in emergency response teams. The Lead must be comfortable wearing full face respirators and emergency response suits, demonstrating readiness to respond to critical safety events.

Additionally, the position involves collaboration with sales and operations planning teams, managing inventory levels, and ensuring smooth startup and shutdown operations aligned with plant activities. The role demands strong problem-solving skills to act as a first responder for production issues, utilizing best judgment and collaborating with operators and off-duty personnel as needed.

This position operates on a rotating shift schedule (3-2-2, 12-hour shifts), including days and nights, with potential support responsibilities at other sites. The pay range for the role is $34 to $46 per hour plus an annual bonus, reflecting the importance and technical nature of the leadership role within a highly specialized chemical process environment.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of experience in a chemical process operations environment and qualified on process
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with basic computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs
  • Performance-based leadership skill set
  • Incident Commander Training - ICS200 minimum
  • Demonstrated ability to think and plan ahead to prepare action plans
  • Qualified in process for minimum one year
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems
  • Demonstrated understanding of plant fire systems and alarms
  • Completed Hazmat technician level training from a certified body
  • Understanding of IMS and Plant Gas Monitoring system
  • Understanding of the plant specific Cylinder Handling Programs
  • Fitness for duty including ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders
  • Ability to medically pass a respiratory test and physical test to wear a full face respirator
  • Ability to communicate effectively and proficiently in English verbally and in writing

Job Duties

  • Coordinates shift activities to meet production schedule and performs shift rounds multiple times per shift
  • Creates an environment that fosters team and individual empowerment
  • Leads start of shift meetings to communicate priorities and general team communications
  • Provides on-shift technical and process subject matter expertise
  • Enhances shift skills and knowledge through coaching on process and equipment
  • Acts as on-shift resource for quality issues
  • Works with Production Supervisor to facilitate integration of new shift team members and establishes Performance Measurement KPIs
