Job Description
Lee Health is one of Florida's largest and most respected not-for-profit health systems, widely recognized for delivering exceptional patient care and innovative health solutions. The system proudly ranks among the top 25 percent of hospitals nationwide according to Healthgrades America's 250 Best Hospitals. Lee Health comprises four acute care hospitals — Lee Memorial Hospital, HealthPark Medical Center, Gulf Coast Medical Center, and Cape Coral Hospital — as well as Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida. It also includes over 100 physician practice locations alongside expanding Home Health and Skilled Nursing services. With a workforce of more than 17,000 employees, a 2,500-strong medical staff, and over 950 primary and specialty care providers, Lee Health serves over two million patient contacts annually. Steadfastly committed to its mission to be a trusted partner empowering healthier lives through care and compassion, Lee Health fosters a culture centered around respect, excellence, compassion, and education. The health system strives to inspire hope and be a national leader in health and healing, supporting its employees with opportunities for career advancement, continuous education, and a collaborative working environment.
The Lead Pharmacist position at Lee Health’s Cape Coral Hospital represents a vital role in the pharmacy services team. This full-time, third-shift role – spanning from 9:30 PM to 6:30 AM – holds primary responsibility for overseeing pharmacy operations during overnight hours, ensuring safe, efficient, and rational medication management across the hospital. The Lead Pharmacist supervises the technical pharmacy staff in the absence of pharmacy leadership, maintains compliance with state and federal regulations, and upholds the highest standards of professional practice. Compensation ranges between $119,600 and $149,822 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The Pharmacy Services Department at Lee Health is nationally recognized for excellence. As the sixth recipient of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Center of Excellence in Medication-Use Safety and Pharmacy Practice certification, Lee Health holds a prestigious distinction as the first multi-site health system in the US to achieve this honor. The department serves multiple adult acute care campuses and a pediatric campus, with embedded community pharmacies designed to smooth transitions of care after discharge. Beyond hospital settings, pharmacy services extend to cancer institutes, primary care clinics, emergency departments, skilled nursing facilities, home infusion services, and employee health pharmacies.
The Lead Pharmacist’s role is critical to maintaining the department’s high standards in medication management and patient safety. Key responsibilities include direct supervision of overnight pharmacy activities, ensuring proper preparation, dispensing, and monitoring of medications for patients of all age groups. The position requires hands-on leadership to foster a supportive and educational environment, promoting clinical excellence and professional growth among pharmacy team members. Aside from clinical expertise, the role demands strong communication skills, the ability to handle data entry and apply analytical and basic math skills, all in a fast-paced, dynamic healthcare setting.
Lee Health offers many professional advantages and personal benefits to this role. These include a comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage plan, a $6 per hour shift differential for third shift work, up to $7,500 in relocation assistance for eligible candidates, and holistic well-being support with mental health programs. Employees benefit from career development opportunities such as annual continuing education unit reimbursements and clearly defined advancement pathways. Additionally, the health system offers a retirement matching program of up to 5 percent, eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness, generous paid time off, flexible scheduling options, and expense-paid on-site interviews for eligible candidates.
This opportunity is ideal for a pharmacist with a PharmD degree or a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy with sufficient equivalent experience, who is seeking to join a nationally recognized pharmacy team in a supportive and collaborative environment. Lee Health values your expertise, supports your professional development, and celebrates your positive impact on patient care each day. If you are passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and are ready to contribute your skills to a top-tier health system, this Lead Pharmacist position at Cape Coral Hospital offers an exceptional career path and work-life balance in beautiful Southwest Florida.
