Job Description
Factory Coffee is a small family-owned cafe and roastery located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Established with a passion for exceptional coffee, Factory Coffee is deeply committed to sourcing beans from around the world with a focus on ethical and environmentally conscious practices. Our company supports farms that engage in community-driven efforts, including environmentally-friendly initiatives, fair employee compensation, and empowerment of women and marginalized groups in the coffee growing industry. This commitment to values is reflected in every cup we serve, creating a unique and fulfilling experience for both our customers and staff.
Our team at Factory Coffee is an inclusive collective of creatives—ranging from artists and musicians to coffee aficionados, designers, plant-lovers, and change-makers. United by a shared vision of collaboration, community, and joy in coffee culture, we work diligently to ensure that every aspect of our cafe—from the roasting and brewing of coffee to the preparation of our food—reflects integrity, quality, and care. We dream big and put thoughtfulness into every measure, weight, and cup, striving to craft a guest experience that is exceptional and memorable.
We are currently seeking an experienced and talented Lead Kitchen Staff member to join our team at our downtown location at 205 W. Lovell, situated in the basement of the 400 Rose Apartment Building. This is a part-time or full-time position offering a starting wage from $18.00 per hour. The ideal candidate should possess at least 2 years of professional experience in a high volume kitchen, exhibiting advanced knowledge and skills in culinary preparation and cooking techniques. Leadership experience or the capability to lead a team is essential, as the role involves mentoring and guiding back-of-house team members to improve kitchen performance and consistency.
The Lead Kitchen Staff will play a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment while ensuring the preparation of food follows high standards and recipe directions. This individual will also be responsible for managing inventory, food storage, and safe handling procedures. Beyond food preparation, the role requires excellent communication skills, creativity, and a positive, team-oriented mindset to foster a collaborative and efficient kitchen atmosphere.
Additionally, the position demands flexibility with scheduling, including weekend availability and varied shifts during mornings and afternoons. Reliable transportation is necessary to meet the demands of the role. By joining Factory Coffee, you will contribute to an environment that values sustainability, community, creativity, and quality, making a meaningful impact in a growing local business. Alongside a rewarding work culture, the position offers employee discounts, free shift meals and drinks, flexible scheduling, and access to various benefits.
If you are passionate about cooking great food, enjoy working in a lively cafe setting, and want to be part of a team that values integrity and collaboration in the coffee and culinary world, we encourage you to apply for this promising Lead Kitchen Staff position at Factory Coffee.
