The available position is for the 2026-2027 school year, offering a full-time work schedule of eight hours per day, nine months per year, specifically from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm in the Food Services Department. The Lead Food Service Worker role is a pivotal leadership position within the school district’s Food Services Department. This role is designed for professionals with a passion for food service management, exceptional organizational skills, and a strong commitment to adhering to safety and sanitation standards. The Lead Food Service Worker assumes responsibility for planning, scheduling, and directing food service activities in middle and high school cafeterias. The incumbent will provide direct supervision and guidance to food service workers, substitute personnel, and student workers, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with school nutrition policies. This includes overseeing food preparation, cafeteria service operations, portion control adherence, and the application of standardized recipes and pricing. Given the multifaceted nature of this role, the incumbent will manage inventory control, order processing, and maintain accurate financial records such as cash receipts and point-of-sale reconciliations. The role also requires operation and upkeep of kitchen equipment as well as computer systems used for food service management. Candidates for this role will engage in staff training and contribute to the development and implementation of improvements in food preparation, menu planning, and equipment use, supporting the district’s nutrition objectives. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in food service work including leadership or supervisory responsibilities
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment and point-of-sale systems
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and health regulations
  • Capability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 40 pounds, standing for extended periods, and manual dexterity
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Valid driver's license for job-related travel
  • Willingness to work scheduled hours from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • Ability to work in kitchen and cafeteria environments with exposure to heat, cold, and cleaning chemicals

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in food service operations preferably in a school or institutional setting
  • Knowledge of food safety policies, health code regulations and safe food handling practices
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment and food service software
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written
  • Leadership and supervisory experience
  • Ability to train and mentor staff
  • Proficiency in record-keeping and financial reconciliation
  • Familiarity with National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program policies
  • Good interpersonal skills including tact, patience, and courtesy

Job Duties

  • Plan, schedule, assign, and monitor food service activities at assigned site
  • Provide assistance in work direction and guidance to food service staff
  • Oversee and participate in preparation and service of food, ensuring compliance with standardized recipes and portion controls
  • Monitor workflow and staff to comply with safety, sanitation, and operational rules and regulations
  • Assist in ordering and proper storage of food and supplies
  • Maintain food services records such as inventory, cash receipts, catering, menus, work orders, and purchase orders
  • Perform financial record-keeping activities including cash counts and receipt verifications
  • Operate kitchen and food service equipment such as ovens, grills, and point-of-sale systems
  • Train new staff in food service operations
  • Assist food service supervisor in implementing improvements in food preparation, menus, and equipment
  • Substitute for absent food service staff as needed
  • Perform related duties as assigned
