Job Description

Andover Public Schools is committed to providing a supportive and nurturing educational environment for students, encompassing not only academic excellence but also the health and well-being of every student and staff member. As part of this mission, the school district maintains a comprehensive Food and Nutrition Services program dedicated to offering nutritious, high-quality meals in a clean, cheerful atmosphere where personal care is paramount. The program emphasizes maintaining sanitary conditions, adhering to food safety standards, and delivering meals efficiently and professionally. This initiative supports the school community's overall well-being and ensures that every student has access to balanced meals essential for their growth and learning success. The Food and Nutrition Services team operates under strong leadership, including the Operations Supervisor, Nutrition Coordinator, and Director of Food and Nutrition Services, to uphold the district's high standards of nutrition and service excellence.

The role being offered is an essential position within this team, centered around preparing and serving meals that meet strict nutritional and safety standards. This position entails using proper cooking equipment, following precise recipes, portion sizes, and serving methods to maintain a professional and efficient dining experience. Beyond meal preparation, responsibilities include evaluating food quality using both objective and subjective measures, monitoring temperatures of food and equipment to comply with safety standards, and ensuring adherence to meal pattern requirements particularly for student meals. Additionally, this role manages receiving and storing deliveries with proper labeling, dating, and rotation using the first-in, first-out (FIFO) approach.

The position also integrates operational tasks such as placing orders for groceries and other supplies with supervisory support, maintaining personal hygiene to meet sanitation standards, and handling payment transactions using the point of service (POS) system for both students and adults. Inventory management is another crucial duty, with regular counting of food and supply stocks to ensure adequate availability. Ongoing professional development through job-related training classes and workshops is encouraged to maintain and enhance job performance.

Physical demands of the role require regular standing, walking, talking, hearing, and manual operation of kitchen equipment, with occasional lifting or moving of items up to 50 pounds. Supervision is provided by various administrators, while this position may also have limited supervisory responsibilities over part-time, full-time, or temporary staff without the authority to reward or discipline, which remains under the purview of the Operations Supervisor. This comprehensive job supports Andover Public Schools' Food Service Collective Bargaining Agreement, highlighting the district's dedication to fair labor practices and employee well-being.
