The role of Lead Fleet Maintenance Technician at Chick-fil-A Supply is a critical part of the transportation operations team, responsible for maintaining and repairing the various transportation delivery equipment used to deliver and unload merchandise at Chick-fil-A restaurants. This position oversees service and repair activities on a broad range of equipment, including heavy-duty tractors, refrigeration units, insulated trailers, and hydraulic liftgates. The Lead Fleet Maintenance Technician ensures that all equipment is serviced safely, orderly, and timely to maximize availability for delivery and maintain smooth operations.

This role requires a strong technical background in mechanical and electrical diagnostics and repairs, particularly related to brake systems, diesel engines, refrigeration systems, and hydraulic components. The Lead Fleet Maintenance Technician also serves as a team leader, guiding other Fleet Maintenance Technicians and reinforcing a culture of teamwork and care within the transportation and distribution center environment. Reporting to the Fleet Manager - Fleet Maintenance, this position coordinates maintenance schedules, manages parts inventory, plans equipment moves, and communicates proactively with operations teams to prevent delivery disruptions.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Four years of relevant experience
EPA 608 and EPA 609 certification
Valid driver’s license
Ability to walk extensively
Ability to stand for long periods typically 8-10 hours
Ability to lift 30-60 lbs repetitively and occasionally lift items weighing up to 100 lbs
Ability to frequently push or pull up to 300 pounds
Capable of working autonomously
Willingness to work in a mobile capacity supporting transportation operations
Willingness to work nights, weekends, and shifts
Willingness to acquire or provide own tools
Willingness to be on-call for fleet-related breakdowns
Proficient in English for communication and documentation

Job Qualifications

EPA 608 and EPA 609 certification
Demonstrated proficiency in diagnosing and repairing brake systems both air and hydraulic
Demonstrated proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines
Demonstrated proficiency in diagnosing and repairing refrigeration unit systems and subsystems
Demonstrated proficiency in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic liftgates
Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical problems
Demonstrated ability and willingness to oversee and inspect the work of colleagues including the ability to communicate required corrections
Valid driver’s license
Proficient communication skills in English including reading, writing, and speaking
Prior experience supervising and coaching others regarding work quality and safety
ASE certifications or willingness to acquire
Willingness to acquire CDL
Prior experience using a Fleet Maintenance Management System
Prior experience with Microsoft Office programs
Material handling equipment experience
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with welding

Job Duties

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications, fleet management policies, work order instructions, and safety, quality, and compliance requirements
Develop strategies and plans to align available resources and external service providers with the needs of Transportation Operations to maximize the availability of safe and reliable equipment
Plan and dispatch daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance activities, including the coordination of services from external vendors
Maintain parts inventory and perform monthly inventory to accurately account for all parts spend
Plan equipment moves for maintenance to maximize uptime availability for the transportation team
Proactively communicate with Transportation Operations and DC Operations all maintenance issues which can disrupt delivery service to restaurants
Support off-shift critical work and emergency repairs
Complete thorough documentation and close out work orders for repairs and maintenance activities in the Fleet Maintenance Management System
Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems, utilizing technology and software where applicable
Complete complex and detailed mechanical and electrical inspection and repairs with minimum supervision
Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment
Identify root cause for defects and perform repairs accordingly
Repair delivery equipment, tractors, trailers, bobtails and passenger vehicles or any piece of equipment used for the delivery and unloading of restaurant merchandise
Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, drill press and jacks and hoists
Raise trucks and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists
Immediately communicate problems with Supervisor or Manager
Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures
Adhere to Federal Motor Carrier Guidelines
Operate a company vehicle to repair equipment as part of a roadside service call when required
Maintain a clean and organized work area
Work in a safe manner according to company policies and federal, state, and local regulations
Train other employees and act as a mentor
Perform other duties as assigned
