Job Description

LMI is a forward-thinking digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact through innovation and agility. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI specializes in delivering mission-ready technology and commercial-grade platforms to federal agencies at commercial speed. Their focus spans multiple sectors including defense, space, healthcare, and civilian government, enabling agencies to navigate complexity and rapidly adapt to change effectively. With a strong commitment to strengthening missions and delivering lasting value, LMI continuously invests in technology and prototypes ahead of operational demand to stay ahead of evolving government needs.

The Lead Event Planner position at LMI is a critical role based at a client location in the National Capital Region, specifically requiring on-site presence at The Pentagon a minimum of three days per week. This role is designed for a highly skilled professional with a proven track record in event planning, project execution, leadership, and relationship management in a highly sensitive and complex environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and leading a team of event planners that organize a wide range of events and conferences for national and international visitors at a U.S. government office.

The Lead Event Planner’s duties include comprehensive event management such as coordinating meals, tours, programs, document distribution, audio-visual setups, transportation, translation services, and accommodations. This role also involves managing Official Representation Funds (ORF) requests in support of Department of Defense events, requiring precise handling and compliance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, the Lead Event Planner will manage a government gift locker designated for international visitors, and work collaboratively with government contracting officers, event sponsors, and protocol offices to ensure seamless event execution.

A significant aspect of this role involves leadership and mentorship, supporting other event planners by documenting best practices, and creating a practical Event Planning guide for ongoing use by the government office. The position demands not only exceptional organizational skills but also a high degree of ethical conduct, critical thinking, and creativity, especially when engaging senior-level customers.

To qualify for this role, candidates typically hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, although four years of equivalent event planning experience may be considered. Candidates must possess a final TOP SECRET security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) eligibility due to the sensitive nature of the work. The ideal candidate will have at least four years of experience in event planning with executive level support experience within a federal agency, knowledge of managing high-level U.S. and foreign delegations, understanding of diplomatic and military protocols, and proficiency in Official Representation Funds processing.

Additional preferred qualifications include two years of experience executing events inside the Pentagon or in the National Capital Region, familiarity with Pentagon catering, photography, and conference space options, as well as knowledge of Pentagon security and visitor procedures. Understanding international cultural considerations and having completed Foreign Distinguished Visitors Training at the Protocol School of Washington or its equivalent is highly advantageous.

The salary range for this position is competitive, offering between $105,000 and $118,000 annually. The compensation package is influenced by factors such as location, business needs, qualifications, and security clearances. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-impact government events while furthering a career in a reputable and innovative company committed to excellence and continuous improvement.
