The role of Lead Environmental Services Technician offers a critical responsibility for maintaining a safe and clean work environment for both employees and visitors at the Topeka campus. This is an on-site position requiring applicants to reside in Kansas or Missouri or be willing to relocate as part of their employment conditions. The lead technician serves not only as an active participant in daily environmental service tasks but also as a key point of contact between the evening shift, department leadership, and vendors when supervisors are unavailable. Responsibilities include managing supply requests, maintaining accurate inventory records, completing detailed inspections of floor conditions, and overseeing team schedules and assignments in the supervisor’s absence. The position demands strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to read and understand hazardous material safety instructions, and a general knowledge of equipment and chemicals used in environmental services. Candidates should possess the ability to respond to team issues professionally, perform thorough inspections with high accuracy, and support departmental goals while fostering team engagement and accountability. The job involves physical demands such as standing for long periods, lifting objects up to 20 pounds, bending, stooping, and exposure to dust and cleaning compounds. This position offers a competitive hourly wage range of $20.96 to $26.20, classified as non-exempt Grade 11. Job Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • experience of 2 years in environmental services or housekeeping functions in a large facility
  • driver’s license required
  • prior leadership experience preferred
  • ability to read and comprehend hazardous material safety instructions
  • great communication and organizational skills
  • general knowledge of equipment and chemicals used in environmental service assignments
  • ability to perform thorough and detailed inspections with a high degree of accuracy
  • ability to respond to and resolve team issues professionally when supervisor is not available
  • ability to communicate and reinforce departmental goals and initiatives while building team engagement, accountability, and commitment
  • ability to complete physical work including standing for long periods, lifting up to 20 lbs, kneeling, stooping, bending, stretching, inspecting objects in high places, being in a stationary position, vacuuming, and moving arms for up to 5 hours at a time
  • exposure to dust and cleaning compounds

Job Duties

  • Responsible for daily tasks of an environmental services tech
  • point of contact between evening shift and department leadership
  • point of contact for vendors when supervisor not available
  • point of contact for BCBSKS employee requests
  • fulfill supply requests for team members while keeping accurate inventory records and ensuring adequate stock levels to support operational needs
  • complete detailed inspections and reports on floor conditions
  • responsible for team schedules and assignments if supervisor is not available
