The county places a strong emphasis on creating and maintaining professional, clean, and safe public spaces which are essential for its residents and visitors alike. As an employer, Kootenai County provides competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for career growth to its employees, making it an attractive workplace in the region.
Kootenai County is currently seeking a Lead Custodian. This is a critical role that goes beyond traditional cleaning duties; it involves leadership, teamwork, and organizational skills to ensure that county facilities remain welcoming and operational. The position offers competitive hourly wages ranging from $17.85 to $21.21 depending on experience, alongside a robust benefits package which includes health care through a free medical clinic available to eligible employees and their dependents. This clinic provides primary care, medications, lab services, and other health benefits.
The Lead Custodian will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and order of various county buildings, ensuring they are safe and professional environments. This position requires hands-on involvement with cleaning tasks, as well as leadership responsibilities such as assigning duties to staff, assisting with hiring and training, scheduling shifts, and managing supplies and equipment. The role involves regular communication with custodial team members and management to coordinate daily operations and special projects, including deep cleans and seasonal maintenance.
This position operates on a swing shift that overlaps with both day and night crews, requiring flexibility and strong time management skills. The ideal candidate will have at least six months of custodial or related experience, preferably with some lead experience, and must be knowledgeable about cleaning equipment, chemicals, and safety procedures. Physical demands include the ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds safely and a valid driver’s license is required.
Working as a Lead Custodian at Kootenai County not only provides job security through a strong retirement plan but also offers a generous paid time off program that rewards employees with up to 8 hours of vacation each month, increasing over time with years of service. Additionally, employees are eligible for public student loan forgiveness, enhancing the value of this career opportunity. With a strong commitment to equal opportunity employment, veteran preference, and a drug-free workplace policy, Kootenai County is an inclusive and supportive employer.
This is a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about facilities maintenance and leadership who want to be part of a team that impacts the community positively. If you value a clean work environment, enjoy leading others, and are looking for a stable career with excellent benefits, this role is an excellent fit within the picturesque setting of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
