Job Description

Franciscan Health Indianapolis Campus is a prominent part of the Franciscan Health system, one of the largest Catholic health care networks in the Midwest, with 12 ministries and multiple access points across Indiana and Illinois. This respected health care institution is committed to delivering compassionate and comprehensive care to patients and communities it serves. Known for its high standards and dedication to wellness, Franciscan Health prioritizes an environment where quality care meets innovation and community support. It strives to create not only a healing environment but a workplace where employees are valued and encouraged to grow professionally and personally.

The Lead Cook/Baker position at Franciscan Health Indianapolis Campus is a vital role that focuses on preparing and cooking high-quality food for patients, staff, special events, and visitors. The role requires adherence to established standard practices and procedures as well as compliance with regulatory agency requirements, ensuring that all food served meets the highest standards of safety and quality. The Lead Cook/Baker is responsible for guiding and directing other cooks and bakers, fostering a collaborative kitchen environment while maintaining excellent food production standards. This position involves coordinating team efforts, ensuring proper usage and maintenance of kitchen equipment such as combi-ovens, slicers, steamers, and mixers, and following sanitation guidelines in accordance with federal, state, and HFAP regulatory agencies.

In this role, the Lead Cook/Baker is expected to prepare meals by following standardized recipes precisely, monitor food temperatures and quality, and manage the timely production of food quantities required for various service areas. The position also entails participating in people management activities, including performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and interviews, which highlights the leadership aspect of the role. Attention to detail in labeling and dating food products is crucial for maintaining compliance and safety standards. Work hours involve shift rotations from 9:30 am to 5 pm and 12:30 pm to 9 pm, including weekends and holidays, reflecting the continuous nature of food service in a healthcare setting.

Joining Franciscan Health means becoming part of a mission-driven organization that values equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion. The health system provides competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits to eligible employees, aiming to support their professional and personal well-being. Whether you bring years of experience or are looking to expand your skills in a supportive and faith-guided environment, the Lead Cook/Baker role offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully within a respected healthcare system that cares for its employees as much as it does for its patients.
