The role of Lead Cook at Aramark is a critical position responsible for overseeing the preparation and cooking of food according to standardized recipes and production guidelines while strictly adhering to food safety, food handling, and sanitation procedures. The Lead Cook must demonstrate expertise in safely handling kitchen equipment and utensils, including knives, grills, fryers, ovens, and broilers, to deliver consistent and efficient food preparation.
In this supervisory role, the Lead Cook is responsible for scheduling and assigning daily work activities, training staff on cooking methods and safety practices, and ensuring that food production meets client requirements and business needs. They maintain a clean and organized workstation, prepare ingredients with precision, and apply a variety of cooking methods such as baking, roasting, broiling, and steaming. The role also involves arranging, garnishing, and portioning food to meet established presentation standards.
The Lead Cook acts as a mentor and leader within the kitchen, fostering a positive work environment and maintaining excellent customer service through a professional and enthusiastic approach when interacting with guests, clients, and colleagues. The position requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The role may entail physical demands such as lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and extended periods of walking or standing, as well as the use of personal protective equipment and uniforms.
This is a full-time position with a shift from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm, including weekends and holidays. Compensation for this role is $20 per hour. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous cooking experience required
- Food safety certification required
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Ability to follow food safety and sanitation procedures
- Physical ability to perform duties including lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, walking, and standing for extended periods
- Availability to work full shifts including weekends and holidays
Job Qualifications
- Previous supervisor experience in a related role preferred
- Experience as a cook or related role required
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision required
- Proven knowledge of the basic principles of food preparation, various cooking methods, and food safety regulations such as proper food handling, sanitation, and storage
- Food safety certification required
- Demonstrates basic math and counting skills
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
Job Duties
- Schedules and assigns daily work activities to staff and supervises the completion of tasks
- Trains and guides staff on job duties, standard food safety and sanitation procedures, cooking methods
- Cooks and prepares food following production guidelines and standardized recipes
- Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment
- Prepares ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling food items
- Safely uses all food utensils including knives
- Operates equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers
- Bakes, roasts, broils, steams, and uses a variety of cooking methods on meats, vegetables, and other foods
- Arranges, garnishes, and portions food following established guidelines
- Properly stores food by following food safety policies and procedures
- Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, and utensils
- Maintains excellent customer service with a positive attitude towards guests, customers, clients, co-workers
- Follows Aramark safety policies and procedures including food safety and sanitation
- Ensures security of company assets
- Produces and maintains work schedules and may prepare production records
