The Lead Cook role at Aramark is a pivotal position within the food service team responsible for preparing and cooking food items according to standardized recipes and production guidelines. This position offers an hourly wage ranging from $19.00 to $21.00, reflecting the company’s commitment to competitive and fair compensation. The Lead Cook is not only accountable for preparing high-quality food items safely and efficiently but also plays a leadership role by supervising kitchen staff, delegating daily responsibilities, and ensuring compliance with all food safety and sanitation protocols. This includes safe handling of various kitchen equipment like grills, fryers, ovens, broilers, knives, slicers, and mixers.
This role requires thorough knowledge of food production standards, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a clean and safe working environment. The Lead Cook must execute food preparation activities such as measuring, weighing, chopping, trimming, mixing, and peeling ingredients with precision and care. Alongside cooking techniques such as baking, roasting, broiling, and steaming, the Lead Cook ensures food presentation meets established guidelines, garnishes and portions food appropriately, and stores food following strict safety policies.
Supervision extends beyond kitchen tasks by also maintaining excellent customer service, positive interactions with guests and coworkers, and adherence to company safety policies. The role demands adaptability, as responsibilities may vary depending on location and client needs, highlighting the dynamic nature of the position. The physical demands of the job include lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and prolonged standing or walking, necessitating a degree of fitness and stamina. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous cooking experience
- Food safety certification
- Ability to work independently and supervise staff
- Knowledge of food preparation and safety regulations
- Basic math skills
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to handle physical demands including lifting, bending, and extended standing
- Willingness to wear uniforms and personal protective equipment when required
Job Qualifications
- Previous supervisor experience in a related role preferred
- Experience as a cook or related role required
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision required
- Proven knowledge of the basic principles of food preparation, various cooking methods, and food safety regulations such as proper food handling, sanitation, and storage
- Food safety certification required
- Demonstrates basic math and counting skills
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
Job Duties
- Schedules and assigns daily work activities to staff and supervises the completion of tasks
- Trains and guides staff on job duties, standard food safety and sanitation procedures, cooking methods
- Cooks and prepares food following production guidelines and standardized recipes
- Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment
- Prepares ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling food items
- Safely uses all food utensils including knives
- Operates equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers
- Bakes, roasts, broils, steams, and uses a variety of cooking methods on meats, vegetables, and other foods
- Arranges, garnishes, and portions food following established guidelines
- Properly stores food by following food safety policies and procedures
- Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, and utensils
- Maintains excellent customer service with a positive attitude towards guests, customers, clients, co-workers
- Follows Aramark safety policies and procedures including food safety and sanitation
- Ensures security of company assets
- Produces and maintains work schedules and may prepare production records
