Job Description

City of Hope Orange County is a leading healthcare organization dedicated to transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care directly to the community. Located on an expansive 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine, City of Hope Orange County is supported by a robust regional network of care. This campus is home to the City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, a state-of-the-art outpatient cancer center dedicated to providing cutting-edge cancer treatments and support services. In late 2025, the organization will further enhance its services by opening Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital, making it a comprehensive care hub offering the full continuum of advanced cancer care from prevention through survivorship. This groundbreaking facility will eliminate the need for patients to travel outside the region for lifesaving cancer treatments, ensuring easier access to exceptional healthcare close to home.

The new cancer specialty hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites equipped with the latest technology, innovative clinical trials, and holistic support services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This combination of clinical excellence and compassionate care distinguishes City of Hope Orange County as a beacon of hope and healing for cancer patients in the community. The approach to cancer care here is far from standard; it represents a commitment to lifesaving treatment, research innovation, and personalized patient care.

The Lead Cook position at City of Hope Orange County plays an essential role in supporting the mission by ensuring the highest quality of food service for patients, staff, and visitors. This role involves the accurate and efficient preparation, portioning, cooking, and presentation of a variety of hot and cold food items across different meal periods such as breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special catered events. Reporting to on-site management or supervisors, the Lead Cook is entrusted with supervising day-to-day activities of foodservice workers and service employees, coordinating their efforts to maintain smooth kitchen operations.

Beyond food preparation, the Lead Cook is responsible for maintaining key control of operations, guaranteeing that opening, closing, and daily procedures are executed flawlessly. This position plays an active role in monitoring employee productivity and suggesting improvements for service quality and efficiency. The Lead Cook also engages directly with customers to ensure satisfaction through attentive service and effective problem resolution. Training and orienting new employees falls under this role’s responsibilities, making it pivotal for team development and maintaining high standards within the food service department.

City of Hope expects the Lead Cook to follow rigorous safety and hygiene protocols by participating in allergy and foodborne illness training, attending safety meetings, and adhering to all regulatory guidelines. The individual is also tasked with maintaining cleanliness of workstations and equipment and ensuring compliance with company policies related to safety, environmental health, infection control, and workplace conduct. Integrity and confidentiality are core values upheld by the Lead Cook, reflecting the organization's commitment to ethical practices.

This role requires a combination of hands-on culinary skills and leadership capabilities, providing an excellent opportunity for experienced cooks who are ready to advance their careers in a supportive and meaningful healthcare environment. City of Hope offers competitive pay based on work experience, qualifications, and location. As an equal opportunity employer, City of Hope is dedicated to fostering an inclusive workplace where every employee can thrive.
