Job Description

Sodexo is a global leader in quality of life services, dedicated to improving the lives of the people it serves across various sectors including food services, facilities management, and workplace experience solutions. Operating worldwide, Sodexo partners with clients ranging from educational institutions to healthcare providers, corporate organizations, and government entities. Among its core missions is to deliver a better everyday experience through high-quality service, innovation, and commitment to sustainability and community progress. The company values diversity, equity, and inclusion, creating an environment where all employees feel respected, heard, and empowered to bring their unique perspectives and talents to the workplace. Sodexo emphasizes a culture of fairness, continuous development, and purpose-driven work, making it an employer of choice for individuals looking to thrive and grow in their careers.

This particular opportunity is with Sodexo’s location at the University of Southern Indiana, where they seek a dedicated Lead Cook to join their food service team. This position is full-time, with workdays and shifts primarily during afternoons and evenings on varying days, offering hourly pay in the range of $17.00 to $18.00. The Lead Cook role is an integral part of the culinary operation, tasked with preparing nutritious and appealing dishes while minimizing food waste and promoting excellent customer service. Beyond cooking, the Lead Cook provides leadership support, ensuring daily kitchen functions run smoothly, supporting team members, and maintaining high standards of food quality and safety.

In the role of Lead Cook, punctuality, reliability, and an ability to operate efficiently within a team-focused environment are essential. The candidate will be responsible for preparing, portioning, cooking, and presenting a variety of hot and cold food items for various meal periods, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special catered events. They will follow recipes and product guidelines and may also take on responsibilities such as operating grill stations or serving customers at an a la carte station. This role includes potential oversight duties where the Lead Cook supports management in supervising key kitchen functions and personnel.

Sodexo encourages applicants who bring passion for food preparation and customer service and who enjoy working collaboratively to create a welcoming dining experience. The company also offers various benefits to support employee well-being and career growth, such as ongoing training, development opportunities, paid time off, medical and dental insurance, vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, and a 401(k) retirement plan. Additional location-specific benefits might include free shift meals, uniforms, safety shoes, and transportation support.

Overall, working with Sodexo at the University of Southern Indiana provides a stable full-time position in a positive and supportive environment that values personal and professional growth. The company’s commitment to creating a better everyday experience aligns with its mission to improve the quality of life for both its employees and clients. Candidates with several years of culinary experience who are adaptable, team-oriented, and reliable will find this role rewarding and meaningful within Sodexo’s inclusive culture.
