Job Description

University Retirement Community is Davis' premier upscale senior living community known for its luxurious and resort-like atmosphere. Unlike typical nursing homes or basic retirement communities, it strives to deliver an exceptional living experience centered around comfort, elegance, and first-class amenities. Catering exclusively to seniors, this community passionately prioritizes quality of life, including providing extraordinary culinary services that rival the best dining establishments in the Davis area. The community's culinary program includes a fine-dining restaurant, an upscale casual bistro, and catering services that enhance resident satisfaction by offering a variety of delicious, freshly prepared meals without the need to leave the premises. At University Retirement Community, the focus is on providing residents with a rich experience that balances upscale living with a strong sense of community and wellbeing.

The role of Cook Lead is a critical position within the culinary team at the University Retirement Community. This role is designed for an experienced culinary professional dedicated to supporting an elite dining experience for senior residents. The Cook Lead is responsible for preparing high-quality food across multiple venues within the community, such as the fine-dining restaurant, casual bistro, and catering operations. A crucial aspect of this position is the leadership and mentorship of new cooks and overseeing the finishing process of cooks' shifts to maintain consistency and excellence. It is a full-time position that requires open availability to cover shifts between 6:30 am to 3:00 pm or 11:30 am to 7:30 pm on both weekdays and weekends, reflecting the community's commitment to 24/7 exceptional service.

Compensation for the Cook Lead ranges from $20.00 to $24.00 per hour, depending on experience. This competitive pay is complemented by a morale-driven and friendly work environment where employees are encouraged to enjoy their workdays. The community offers an extensive benefits package that includes 100% paid medical, dental, and vision insurance, solid retirement plans including a 401k company match and an additional defined contribution plan, plus access to an on-site fitness and aquatic center. Additional benefits such as complimentary shift meals, a generous paid time off plan, employee wellness classes, referral bonuses, scholarships, and a daily pay option called PayActiv further enhance employee satisfaction and support.

This role requires a valid Food Handlers card to ensure the highest standards of food safety are met. A ServSafe Food Safety Manager certificate is considered a strong plus and reflects advanced knowledge in food safety management. By joining University Retirement Community as a Cook Lead, culinary professionals have the unique opportunity to be part of a prestigious organization dedicated not only to the wellbeing of its senior residents but also fostering a respectful, collaborative work culture that values innovation and excellence in culinary arts. If you have a passion for cooking, leadership, and elevating dining experiences, this role offers a rewarding career path with significant growth and impact potential within a luxury senior living environment.
