Job Description
Sodexo is a global leader in quality of life services, dedicated to creating a better everyday for everyone by enhancing the well-being of individuals and communities around the world. Operating across multiple sectors including food services, catering, and facilities management, Sodexo partners with various clients to deliver exceptional experiences that foster social, economic, and environmental progress. With a focus on inclusion and diversity, Sodexo values each employee's unique contributions and strives to cultivate a respectful, supportive, and inspiring work environment where everyone can thrive and be themselves. The company recognizes that its strength lies in happy, engaged employees and actively supports equal employment opportunities regardless of race, gender, age, or other protected characteristics.
The Lead Cook position at Sodexo, located at the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation UPA in West Des Moines, Iowa, is a full-time role offered with a competitive pay range of $18.00 to $20.00 per hour. This role is essential within Sodexo’s culinary team and is primarily available during weekdays, with specific shifts communicated during the interview process. As a Lead Cook, you will be more than just a cook; you will be a crucial part of a team that prioritizes reducing food waste, delivering nutritious meals, and providing outstanding customer service. The role focuses on the preparation and presentation of various hot and cold dishes across multiple meal periods including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special or catered events.
Responsibility for accurate portioning, following basic recipes and product directions, potentially operating an a la carte or grill station, and supporting management with oversight of staff and key functions situates the Lead Cook as both a hands-on culinary expert and a team leader. Reliability and punctuality are key traits for the role, ensuring consistent quality and service standards are met. This position offers an opportunity for cooks with a passion for food and customer service to make a tangible impact on the dining experience while working in a supportive and adaptable environment.
At Sodexo, Lead Cooks will find the opportunity to grow through ongoing training and development initiatives that foster career advancement. Employees benefit from a comprehensive package that supports their well-being and that of their families, including paid time off, holidays, medical, dental, and vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, 401k investment plans, and discount programs. Additional site-specific benefits such as free meals during shifts, uniforms, safety shoes, transportation support, and parking may also be available. Sodexo's commitment to nurturing safe and healthy workplaces ensures that the environment will be inclusive and team-oriented.
Overall, the Lead Cook role is ideal for those with 3-4 years of experience who are adaptable, team-oriented, and dedicated to supporting their colleagues and customers with quality service. This position offers the chance to be part of a company that values your individuality and ideas while providing a stable and rewarding career path in the culinary field. Sodexo’s mission to enhance quality of life extends to its employees, making this role a fulfilling opportunity for anyone passionate about food, customer satisfaction, and professional growth.
