The role of Lead Cashier at Ulta Beauty is a pivotal position fundamental to the efficiency and success of the guest transaction process and maintaining exceptional cashwrap standards. The Lead Cashier (LC) acts as a leader among cashiers and broader team members, assisting in training new cashiers and cross-training other associates. This position requires a proactive and collaborative mindset, the ability to influence peers constructively, and a commitment to delivering an exceptional guest experience throughout every interaction. The LC is focused on driving results across sales performance, guest loyalty (including credit programs), and adherence to Ulta Beauty’s operating procedures and compliance standards, with a strong emphasis on cashiering.
Key responsibilities include ensuring the smooth and accurate completion of sales, refunds, and exchanges while maintaining cashwrap cleanliness and organization. The Lead Cashier also supports leadership functions such as register openings and closings and participating in associate exit inspections and cashier chat in/outs. This role demands excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong problem-solving ability, and a passion for guest service and product knowledge. Ulta Beauty expects the LC to engage guests by recommending products and services, support appointment booking for salon services, and actively promote the Ulta Beauty loyalty program including credit offerings.
This role requires flexibility in working hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, and is not available to minors; candidates must be 18 years or older. The pay range for this position is $16.90 to $24.75 per hour, with exact pay determined by education, experience, certifications, geographic location, and business needs. Eligible full-time employees receive paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits, while part-time employees are eligible for dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.

Job Requirements
- work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- the role of lead cashier cannot be held by a minor
- any associate being hired or promoted into the role must be 18 years of age
- continuous mobility throughout the store during shift, including twisting
- frequent bending, pulling, pushing, crouching, stooping, twisting, and reaching during shift
- frequent lifting and/or moving up to 25 lbs during shift
- continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift
Job Qualifications
- high school diploma is preferred
- 2 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience preferred
- proven ability to delegate, multi-task, and problem-solve
- demonstrated knowledge and passion for guest service and a competency for selling
- experience addressing guests concerns and questions promptly and professionally to deliver exceptional customer service
- demonstrated experience in exceeding sales goals and training new hires
- proficient with basic technology (e.g., point of sale system and Apple devices)
- excellent written and verbal communication
- strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
- ability to work independently and as part of a team
- ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships
- ability to react under pressure, use good judgment in ambiguous situations, and be flexible/adaptable
Job Duties
- contribute to meeting or exceeding the store s goals related to retail and service sales, omni-channel, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink
- ensure that each guest receives exceptional service by providing a guest-friendly environment, greeting and engaging each guest, personalizing service to their needs, and recommending Ulta Beauty products and/or services
- courteously handle sales, refunds, and exchanges
- ensure each guest receives exceptional service by pairing them with an associate to perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations
- book appointments for and support the execution of services and in-store events that deliver an unrivaled guest experience while delivering on sales goals
- take ownership over the replenishment, organization, and maintenance of all cashwrap displays, supplies, and impulse fixtures
- maintain prompt, regular attendance
