The Layout Inspector role is based within the Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) group located in Hampton, Virginia. This position is vital for ensuring that all castings, wax patterns, customer tooling, and precision measurement instruments conform strictly to blueprints and customer specifications. Integral to the manufacturing process, the Layout Inspector uses advanced coordinate measurement machines (CMM) and dimensional analysis software to measure and analyze parts accurately. The role requires candidates to complete rigorous daily calibrations and repairs of customer gauges and to run and correlate CMM programs with manual inspection results to maintain the highest quality standards. The Layout Inspector must be proficient with various software packages including FLB, OFI, Autoscan, Fanamation, AutoCAD, and Valysis, and must apply a thorough understanding of blueprint interpretation, geometric tolerancing, and trigonometry to their daily tasks. Responsible also for troubleshooting and maintaining CMM equipment, this position plays a central role in supporting production goals and ISO-quality compliance. The working hours for this role are 2nd shift, Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., with an initial training period on the 1st shift. The starting pay rate for new hires is $25.31 per hour, increasing to $28.13 after six months, with an additional $1.00 per hour shift premium for off-shift work. Job Requirements
- Resume and two professional references must be included
- Associate's degree or one year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must be available for all shifts and able to work overtime and weekends
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Ability to obtain lawful access to export-controlled items
- Willingness to work the 2nd shift M-F 3pm-11pm with initial training on 1st shift M-F 7am-3pm
- Willingness to comply with company safety and quality standards
Job Qualifications
- Associate's degree from a two-year college or technical school or equivalent experience
- Experience using coordinate measurement machines and dimensional measurement software
- Ability to interpret blueprints and geometric tolerances
- Proficiency with mathematical concepts such as trigonometry, statistics, and geometry
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Effective communication skills to present information and respond to questions
- Ability to work with technical instructions and abstract variables
Job Duties
- Perform calibrations of all customers gauges daily
- Repair customer gauges to make them functional for production use daily
- Run CMM programs on production castings daily
- Correlate CMM programs to manual results daily
- Troubleshoot and repair problems associated with all CMMs in the plant daily
- Perform calibrations of all precision measurement equipment to ISO standards weekly
- Perform routine maintenance on CMM machines monthly
- Understand all customer specifications and ISO quality standards
- Operate coordinate measurement machines utilizing computer software packages such as FLB, OFI, Autoscan, Fanamation, AutoCAD and Valysis daily
- Apply knowledge concerning blueprint interpretation and geometric tolerancing daily
- Apply math skills including trigonometry daily
- Report inspection results with high precision
