Located in Redondo Beach, California, Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems sector is seeking a Laser Technician 4 to join its dynamic team of skilled professionals. This role is an opportunity to engage with advanced hardware production within a fast-paced, collaborative environment that values high expectations and diverse technical assignments. As part of the Laser Technician team, the successful candidate will be involved in a variety of tasks related to laser systems, involving optical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic components. The position requires hands-on work using specialized tools and equipment to assemble, align, troubleshoot, and test laser components and subsystems critical to the success of complex laser systems.
This role includes close collaboration with engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test teams to ensure the highest quality and precision in optical hardware. Responsibilities span from assisting in the development of high-power laser systems to performing precision inspection, cleaning, bonding, and troubleshooting of delicate optical components. The candidate will operate in lab and cleanroom environments, adhering strictly to laser safety and cleanliness protocols while using tools such as microscopes, precision adhesive dispensers, UV light curing systems, alignment lasers, and other optical instruments.
Northrop Grumman offers a comprehensive salary range for this position from $79,100 to $131,900 annually, reflecting factors such as experience, education, and market conditions. Employees may also be eligible for overtime pay, shift differentials, discretionary bonuses, and in senior roles, long-term incentive plans. This position requires no government clearance upfront but involves frequent travel commitments of about 10 percent of the time. Relocation assistance may be available to qualified candidates. Job Requirements
- High school diploma and six years of additional education or related technician experience
- experience performing precision inspection, cleaning, bonding, and troubleshooting of laser optical components
- experience assembling, aligning, troubleshooting, adjusting, testing, and maintaining laser components, sub-assemblies, systems and associated support equipment including delicate freespace optics and optical assemblies, components for laser thermal management, and fiber optic components
- experience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and schematics
- experience working with common optical inspection and assembly tools such as microscopes, precision adhesive dispensers, UV light curing systems for optical adhesives, alignment lasers and other optical alignment tools
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma and six years of additional education or related technician experience
- experience performing precision inspection, cleaning, bonding, and troubleshooting of laser optical components
- experience assembling, aligning, troubleshooting, adjusting, testing, and maintaining laser components, sub-assemblies, systems and associated support equipment including delicate freespace optics and optical assemblies, components for laser thermal management, and fiber optic components
- experience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and schematics
- experience working with common optical inspection and assembly tools such as microscopes, precision adhesive dispensers, UV light curing systems for optical adhesives, alignment lasers and other optical alignment tools
- an associate's degree in a technical discipline or other two year technical training
- experience supporting the environmental testing of optical hardware including the use of thermal vacuum chambers, environmental test data acquisition hardware, and electronic test equipment
- experience using tools including theodolites, interferometers, laser power meters, soldering irons, and fiber splicers
- familiarity with optical substrate materials and their properties
- experience working in a cleanroom environment
- active DoD Secret or Top Secret security clearance
Job Duties

- performing a variety of tasks using tools such as microscopes, precision adhesive dispensers, UV light curing systems for optical adhesives, alignment lasers and other optical alignment tools
