Youth Civic Accelerator is a dynamic organization dedicated to creating sustainable civic infrastructure that focuses on empowering young people, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities, and working-class voters, particularly those who have been historically marginalized in political processes. The organization seeks to foster long-term political transformation through innovative organizing, strategic civic engagement, and coordinated electoral programming. By uniting state affiliates under a cohesive national strategy while allowing localized adaptability, Youth Civic Accelerator aims to leverage collective resources for maximizing impact across elections and issue-based campaigns.

Michigan FIRE (Future. Impact. Resistance. Engagement.) / Michigan FIRE Action operates as a regional affiliate of this larger vision. Centered in Lansing, Michigan, Michigan FIRE is highly focused on youth civic empowerment through organizing within key communities across the state. They are committed to mobilizing young people, especially youth of color and working-class youth, to participate actively in democracy and community-building initiatives.

The role of Community Coordinator at Michigan FIRE is a full-time, exempt, seasonal position based in the Lansing region. This role offers an hourly wage of $20.75 and includes a comprehensive benefits package that features 100% employer-paid healthcare, retirement matching at 6%, stipends for wifi and cell phone usage, and generous paid time off along with holiday packages. The position is intended to run at least through November 17th, 2026, with an open application policy until the role is filled.

Community Coordinators serve as the frontline ambassadors of Michigan FIRE’s mission. They are responsible for engaging directly with youth in their communities, conducting canvassing and other outreach activities in cultural spaces that prioritize identity and inclusion. These efforts are designed to encourage young people to recognize the relevance of key political issues such as climate change, education, and employment to their own lives and to motivate participation in local and national elections.

Additionally, Community Coordinators manage event logistics, collaborate with Regional Organizers, recruit participants, and attend campus and community meetings to build identity-centered membership bases. They also maintain social media channels to amplify civic content and support the organization’s digital engagement strategies. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about meeting new people, possess a passion for civic empowerment, and demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness in designing effective outreach strategies.

Candidates who succeed in this role thrive on high energy, innovation, and inclusivity. They will be comfortable initiating conversations with strangers, able to adeptly use relational organizing techniques, and skilled at leveraging networks like clubs, organizations, classes, and faculty for joint events and community development. The position demands flexibility, multitasking ability, strong organizational capabilities, self-starting motivation, and excellent time management. Enrollment at one of the focus universities in the region is required, ensuring that Community Coordinators are closely connected to the constituencies they serve.
