The Scale House Cashier position at Wasco County Landfill offers a unique opportunity to join an engaged team in a vital administrative role that supports the overall landfill operations. This full-time role operates on a Monday through Friday schedule, with occasional Saturdays required to meet the needs of the landfill’s customers. Shifts are scheduled from 5:15 AM to 2:30 PM and from 6:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with an hourly wage of $21.00. As a Scale House Cashier, you will be the first point of contact for customers entering the landfill. You will greet and direct visitors, weigh their vehicles upon entry and exit, and calculate payments based on the weight of materials disposed of. This role requires vigilance in ensuring that the incoming loads are safe and free from hazardous or prohibited items. Beyond transactional duties, the position also involves assisting with various office tasks and projects, fostering a collaborative and efficient workplace. Candidates should have the ability to multi-task effectively, manage cash and credit transactions, and demonstrate excellent customer service skills. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred to enhance communication with a diverse customer base.

  • Employment eligibility dependent upon criminal background report and pre-employment drug panel screening

Job Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment
  • Ability to operate a credit/debit card machine
  • Ability to count cash drawer and balance the till at the end of every shift
  • Proficient computer understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
  • 10 Key proficient
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish preferred

Job Duties

  • Greet and direct all customers and employees upon entry of the landfill
  • Weigh vehicles as they enter and leave
  • Calculate payments for customers depending on weight disposed of at landfill
  • Ensure incoming customer loads are safe and do not contain hazardous or inappropriate material
  • Assist with office duties and projects as needed
  • Approach all encounters with employees, customers, and vendors in a friendly, service-oriented manner
