The Cook role at Harkins Theatres is vital to ensuring that guests receive delicious, well-prepared food that meets the company’s high standards. This position is part of the culinary team responsible for preparing menu ingredients accurately and consistently according to standardized recipes and portion controls. The cook helps maintain kitchen organization and cleanliness, following all food safety and sanitation guidelines to uphold a safe dining experience.

As a Cook, you will handle food preparation tasks such as rinsing and cutting raw food products, portioning ingredients, cooking various menu items using methods like broiling, grilling, and sautéing, and ensuring that every dish meets the presentation standards before it reaches guests. You will also maintain the stock of food items at line stations, conduct temperature checks, and comply with company policies including liquor laws and hygiene protocols. This is a fast-paced, physically active role requiring attention to detail, effective communication, and teamwork.

The position typically requires working evenings, weekends, and holidays to support the theatre’s operational hours. Job Requirements

  • Required to be at least 18 years of age
  • available to work nights, holidays and/or weekends
  • able to work in a fast-paced, loud environment and in a standing position for extended periods of time
  • required to obtain and maintain a current food handler’s card and/or food safety certification
  • requires bending, stretching, reaching, squatting, twisting, standing, walking up and down stairs and on flat surfaces
  • lifting (up to 50 pounds), interacting with guests and employees, problem solving, and cognitive skills

Job Qualifications

  • Preferably 1 year experience in basic kitchen preparation
  • able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace
  • possess basic math skills
  • be fiscally responsible
  • operate a point-of-sale system
  • a professional image with an increased attention to detail
  • well organized and a desire to serve guests and enjoy working as part of a team

Job Duties

  • Prepare menu ingredients following a recipe to produce consistent results
  • complete daily prep list, maintain station throughout shift, follow all specifications, and stock items as needed
  • rinse and cut raw food products
  • portion products and follow recipes to ensure plate presentation looks great and is consistent
  • comply consistently with portion sizes, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures
  • stock and maintain sufficient levels of food products at line stations to ensure a smooth service period
  • prepare items for broiling, grilling, sautéing or other cooking methods based off recipe requirements
  • follow proper plate presentation and garnish set up for all dishes
  • handle, label, store, and rotate all products properly
  • conduct proper temperature checks of all food and document using the appropriate standard procedures
  • follow sanitization standards, ensure workstation stays clean and organized, and follow all food handling standards
  • communicate promptly and courteously with all guests
  • communicate effectively with management and staff
  • maintain a clean working environment and follow operating checklists
  • follow all applicable liquor laws and company policies
  • understand and follow proper rules of hygiene and food safety measures
