Job Description

IEH Laboratories is a renowned leader in the field of food safety, dedicated to providing comprehensive laboratory testing and analytical services to ensure the highest standards of quality and safety within the food and beverage industry. Founded with a mission to support food producers, processors, and regulatory bodies, IEH Laboratories has cultivated a reputation for precision, reliability, and adherence to rigorous scientific protocols. Based in Salinas, California, the company operates state-of-the-art facilities designed to handle a wide variety of tests necessary for confirming food safety and compliance with applicable laws and standards. Through its commitment to innovation, continuous staff training, and cutting-edge technology, IEH Laboratories stands as a trusted partner for clients seeking expert analysis and dependable results.

The role of Laboratory Technician at IEH Laboratories is a critical position within the organization that involves essential laboratory tasks contributing to accurate food safety testing. This full-time position, located at their Salinas facility, offers an hourly pay rate of $19.00 with an additional $2.00 per hour night shift differential, reflecting the importance and demands of working varied shift schedules in a dynamic environment. The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing a variety of duties including media and sample preparation, sorting and logging samples, conducting specific sample testing steps under supervision, transcribing and entering data, managing inventory, and maintaining cleanliness and order in the laboratory. The position requires flexibility to work rotating shifts including mornings, evenings, nights as well as weekends and potential holidays to support the 24/7 operational nature of the laboratory.

Ideal candidates are expected to have at least a high school diploma or GED, although having an associate degree in Biology or a related field is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency with data entry and computer applications, show the ability to quickly learn new software and lab equipment, and operate effectively in a fast-paced laboratory setting. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential to accurately document and report findings, facilitating smooth workflow and collaboration with supervisory staff and colleagues. Furthermore, a strong understanding of aseptic technique is required to maintain contamination-free procedures. Physical demands include regularly lifting items weighing up to 30 pounds above waist level, underscoring the hands-on nature of the role.

The company offers a comprehensive benefits package which becomes available shortly after employment begins. This includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and AD&D insurance, long and short-term disability insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending accounts for health and dependent care, an employee assistance program, paid time off encompassing sick leave and vacation days, bereavement leave, and designated paid holidays. Applicants should be aware that because of potential exposure to food allergens within the laboratory environment, those with moderate to severe food allergies may need to reconsider their application.

This opportunity at IEH Laboratories is excellent for individuals seeking to build or advance their careers in food safety and laboratory sciences, offering a supportive and structured environment with opportunities to develop technical skills and contribute to public health through meticulous food testing.
