ECS is currently seeking a talented Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Laboratory Technician to join their expanding Austin team. This is an exceptional opportunity for individuals looking to embark on a career in construction materials testing without prior experience, as the company provides comprehensive paid training along with coverage for certification fees. The role involves hands-on learning under the guidance of seasoned experts, ensuring a solid foundation in safely conducting various tasks within concrete and soils laboratories.

The Construction Materials Testing Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing basic laboratory tests on construction material samples, assisting in sample preparation, and handling data compilation and administrative duties. Specifically, this role includes conducting soils laboratory tests such as Atterberg limits, gradation analyses, swell testing, moisture content testing, visual classifications, unconfined compressive strength testing of soil and rock, and standard and modified proctor testing under supervision. Additionally, the technician will support concrete lab duties including stripping and labeling samples, setting samples for curing, monitoring temperature logs, and breaking samples.

Maintaining a clean and organized laboratory environment, supporting the calibration and maintenance of equipment, keeping accurate calibration records in compliance with quality assurance standards, and notifying supervisors about equipment issues are also critical responsibilities. The role may occasionally involve fieldwork and other laboratory functions as needed, contributing to broad practical experience.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED, communication skills, basic math proficiency, attention to detail, a dependable work ethic, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds multiple times a day. Candidates will obtain laboratory certifications applicable to the work performed, including certifications for both soils and concrete laboratories if engaged in both areas.
