The role at Neogen centers around high-throughput genomic data generation and molecular biology laboratory work, critical to supporting the company's mission of genomic innovation. The position involves performing various molecular biology tasks including sample and reagent preparation, DNA extraction and isolation, quality analysis preceding genotyping, and numerous related laboratory techniques. The successful candidate will operate essential electronic and robotic equipment such as liquid handling robots, multichannel pipettes, and electronic repeaters, ensuring consistency and quality in laboratory procedures within a fast-evolving environment. The role demands meticulous maintenance of detailed, accurate records like laboratory notebooks, lot tracking, sample archives, and entries into Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
Additional responsibilities include assisting in training new team members like technicians, assistants, and interns to effectively manage the laboratory workload, as well as providing valuable input on process improvements aimed at maximizing efficiency. The position requires coordination of ordering and inventory management for supplies, reagents, and consumables specific to platforms used. Instrument calibration, preventive maintenance, adherence to cleaning protocols, and ensuring a safe, compliant environment are crucial aspects of the job. The candidate will consistently follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), support ISO procedures and quality standards, and perform other duties assigned by the manager. Job Requirements
- Education level equivalent to a bachelor's degree or relevant experience
- Experience in laboratory environments with molecular biology techniques
- Ability to operate and maintain electronic and robotic laboratory equipment
- Capacity to maintain accurate laboratory records per SOP and quality standards
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving work setting
- Willingness to follow rigorous cleaning and safety protocols
- Competence in using LIMS and similar laboratory data systems
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in a relevant field such as molecular biology, biotechnology, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, biology, or related life sciences
- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques including DNA extraction, PCR, genotyping
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot automated liquid handling systems and robotic platforms
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to SOPs, ISO standards, and safety protocols
- Ability to maintain consistency and accuracy in a high-throughput environment
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
Job Duties
- Perform sample and reagent preparation, DNA extraction and isolation, processing, quality analysis prior to genotyping, and related molecular biology tasks
- Execute all duties essential to high-throughput data generation for platform-specific technologies, including primary and secondary platforms
- Operate and maintain electronic and robotic equipment essential to processing, such as liquid handling robots, multichannel pipettes, and electronic repeaters
- Maintain consistency and quality in laboratory techniques and procedures within a fast-paced, evolving work environment
- Generate and analyze initial data from various laboratory techniques and analytical instrumentation
- Maintain accurate records, including laboratory notebooks, lot tracking, sample archives, LIMS entries, and repositories
- Assist in training new technicians, assistants, and interns to support workload management
- Provide input on process improvements to maximize laboratory efficiency
- Ordering and inventory of supplies, reagents, and platform-specific consumables
- Calibrating instruments and performing general preventive maintenance
- Following cleaning protocols and ensuring a safe, compliant environment
- Follow established SOPs consistently, support ISO procedures and quality standards always
- Other duties as assigned by the manager
