Job Description

TriCore Reference Laboratories is New Mexico's largest laboratory, employing over 1,400 professionals dedicated to enhancing community health through excellence in laboratory testing. As a prominent healthcare entity, TriCore is committed to providing high-quality diagnostics that support better patient outcomes. The organization fosters a culture grounded in integrity, innovation, and continuous development, making it a top choice for individuals passionate about advancing healthcare and medical science. With multiple testing locations and a diverse range of laboratory services, TriCore plays a critical role in patient care across the region.

The Laboratory Scientist role at TriCore is a pivotal position designed to support diagnostic efforts through precise and accurate laboratory testing. This is an hourly position based at Lovelace Medical Center with a scheduled workweek from Tuesday to Friday, 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, including on-call responsibilities and additional shifts as needed. Under general supervision, Laboratory Scientists perform waived, moderate, or high complexity testing that directly influences disease diagnosis and treatment. They are responsible for running quality control measures, performing equipment maintenance, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring that testing procedures comply with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations.

In this role, a Laboratory Scientist exercises independent judgment in interpreting test results, promptly reporting abnormalities to supervisors or pathologists. The position demands technical proficiency in operating a variety of laboratory instruments while documenting maintenance and quality assurance efforts. Scientists may also assist with point-of-care testing programs, which include training non-laboratory personnel, troubleshooting testing performance, reviewing quality data, and supporting test implementation and validation processes.

The role is essential in maintaining laboratory standards during regulatory inspections and plays a critical part in inventory management, ordering supplies, and mentoring new staff or students. Depending on the specific department, Laboratory Scientists may also collect specimens such as blood, urine, sputum, or other body fluids for analysis. This multifaceted position requires a balance of technical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and external clients.

TriCore offers significant opportunities for career growth, including placements from Laboratory Scientist I through IV, depending on education and experience level. The company values certifications such as ASCP or AMT credentials and encourages continuous learning with education assistance programs. Employees enjoy robust benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan with employer match, paid time off, paid holidays, wellness programs, and career advancement possibilities. This role is ideal for dedicated professionals committed to patient care and quality laboratory practices within a supportive and dynamic work environment.
