Terracon is a 100 percent employee-owned multidiscipline consulting firm with a workforce of over 8,000 professionals spread across more than 200 locations nationwide. Since its establishment in 1965, Terracon has grown and evolved into a leading multi-discipline company specializing in environmental, facilities, geotechnical, and materials services. The company has earned recognition as the #1 firm in Asbestos and Lead Abatement, demonstrating its commitment to industry excellence and client satisfaction. Terracon’s success is built on the foundation of talented employee-owners who consistently exceed client expectations and are passionate about advancing their careers through new and exciting opportunities in a dynamic marketplace.
Terracon’s vision, "Together, we are best at people," reflects the company’s dedication to creating a supportive and engaging working environment. The firm offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plans, paid time off, holidays, education reimbursement, and various bonus programs. These benefits, paired with the company’s inclusive culture and commitment to diversity, make Terracon an outstanding employer for professionals seeking long-term career growth and development.
The role available is for a Construction and Geotechnical Materials Laboratory Manager responsible for coordinating and managing the activities of Terracon’s laboratory that conducts testing on materials such as soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt. The laboratory manager ensures that all testing services are performed safely, timely, and in compliance with company quality protocols and project requirements. This position requires a leader who can oversee laboratory staff, training, and utilization of resources while maintaining laboratory equipment and cleanliness.
The laboratory manager provides supplemental operating policies and procedures tailored to the unique needs of the laboratory, ensuring consistent and efficient service delivery aligned with Terracon’s quality standards. Collaborating with office management, the manager assists in preparing proposals and quotations to ensure proper scoping, manpower availability, and competitive pricing that supports profitability. The role involves direct supervision and monitoring of laboratory operations to meet client and project requirements, while adhering to internal policies and the company’s Construction Materials Quality Management System (QMS).
Another critical aspect of the role is to lead efforts in employee performance evaluation, professional development, and effective resource utilization. The manager oversees the calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment, keeps the laboratory organized and clean, and supports business development activities to align fee structures with staffing needs. Administrative oversight ensures timely and accurate reporting, proposal preparation, and compliance with company administrative policies such as timesheets, expense reports, and purchase orders.
This position often requires hands-on involvement in construction and geotechnical laboratory testing based on workload and staffing demands. The laboratory manager must also have a comprehensive understanding of project-related risks, safety regulations, and company risk policies to create and promote a safe working environment. Leadership in safety initiatives, continuous quality monitoring, and interaction with project stakeholders further enhances the department’s contribution to Terracon’s reputation for delivering high-quality engineering and technical consulting services.
Joining Terracon means becoming part of a dedicated team held together by integrity, creativity, and care. The materials team is the largest technician and inspection workforce in the company, essential in evaluating and testing materials used to build critical infrastructure nationwide. With expertise spanning numerous qualifications and certifications, this team works on-site to provide real-time data and insights that keep projects moving smoothly, resolving issues quickly wherever they arise. The team’s nationwide reach, bench strength, flexibility, and capabilities make it an invaluable part of Terracon’s continued growth and operational excellence.
