Job Description
Weyerhaeuser is a leading company in the sustainable management of forests and the manufacturing of wood products that enhance everyday life. With a strong commitment to safety, excellence, and sustainability, Weyerhaeuser operates multiple business lines across North America, offering a wide range of exciting career opportunities for talented individuals passionate about making a positive difference in the world. The company fosters an inclusive and equitable culture where all employees feel a sense of belonging, opportunity, and shared purpose, embodying diversity and inclusion as one of its core values.
The Labor Relations Manager role at Weyerhaeuser is designed to support and execute the labor relations strategy across multiple manufacturing and distribution sites in the United States and Canada. This position plays a crucial part in managing union relationships and facilitating collective bargaining negotiations while partnering closely with senior labor relations and legal leadership. The role requires balancing independent judgment with alignment on economic, legal, and high-risk decisions. The successful candidate will operate primarily from a home office with access to a major airport for travel, spending approximately 30 to 50 percent of their time traveling across the U.S. and Canada.
This role involves leading lower-complexity collective bargaining negotiations and supporting more complex negotiations, serving as first chair in smaller bargaining agreements. The Labor Relations Manager is responsible for advising leaders on contract interpretation, union grievance handling, and daily union interactions, playing a vital role in maintaining effective communication and collaboration between management and union representatives. In addition, the manager supports arbitration preparations, works closely with legal teams to develop case strategies, and actively monitors union organizing activities to respond proactively in coordination with leadership.
The role demands proactive engagement in coaching site leaders on labor relations best practices and risk mitigation. It involves identifying labor relations trends, addressing systemic risks, and ensuring strict compliance with applicable labor laws, collective bargaining agreements, and company standards. Maintaining accurate and defensible documentation of labor relations activities is also a key responsibility.
Candidates for the Labor Relations Manager position should have a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business, or a related field, along with 5 to 8 years of progressive labor relations experience in unionized environments. Experience in leading or supporting collective bargaining negotiations and union organizing response efforts is essential, especially within manufacturing or distribution settings. The role demands strong judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence others without direct authority. Preferred qualifications include experience with labor relations across both U.S. and Canadian labor environments, supporting multiple bargaining units or unionized sites, and familiarity with arbitration strategy and settlement analysis.
Candidates should be located in or willing to relocate to specific U.S. states where this role is open, including Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, or Washington. The role requires availability outside normal business hours during critical labor events or negotiations.
Weyerhaeuser offers a competitive salary range from $108,500 to $162,800 based on skills and experience, with eligibility for an annual merit increase and a cash bonus targeting 15 percent of base pay through their Annual Incentive Program. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, vision coverage, short and long-term disability, life insurance, and a Health Savings Account with company contributions. Additional benefits such as voluntary long-term care, employee assistance programs, diversity networks, mentoring, and continuous training and development opportunities are also provided.
Employees are encouraged to participate in the company's 401k retirement plan, which features a paid company match and additional company contributions equal to 5 percent of eligible pay. Paid time off includes three weeks of paid vacation in the first year, vacation accrual after six months, eleven paid holidays, totaling 88 holiday hours, and paid parental leave for full-time employees.
Joining Weyerhaeuser as a Labor Relations Manager means contributing to a company serious about its social and environmental responsibilities, committed to the well-being of its employees, and driven to achieve operational excellence while fostering a respectful, inclusive workplace.
