The General Finishes Lab Technician role at PPG Oak Creek offers an exciting opportunity for experienced laboratory technicians who are passionate about supporting engineering and scientific projects. This position involves conducting various technical activities such as preparing and applying liquid coating products, testing these coatings against customer specifications, and documenting and analyzing results. The role requires working independently or alongside chemists, engineers, or project leaders to plan, execute, and improve testing procedures and research. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing projects with minimal supervision, adapting quickly to new challenges, and enhancing efficiency by applying learned skills and past experiences.

This is a full-time, onsite position reporting to the General Finishes Team Lead. Job Requirements

  • 2+ years of lab experience
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Mechanically inclined and comfortable with hands-on benchwork
  • Experience working in a coatings laboratory environment
  • Color matching experience
  • Strong math skills and high school chemistry preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret customer specifications
  • Proficient in computer skills including Word and Excel

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Follow all PPG EH&S and safety guidelines
  • Preparation and application of liquid coating products and testing of these coatings against different specifications and customer requirements
  • Independently plan tasks following a discussion of goals and procedures with the supervisor
  • Observe unusual results and suggest possible root causes
  • Make smooth transitions between projects or situations
  • Build on past experiences to improve efficiency
