Job Description
NV5 is a leading provider of engineering and consulting services dedicated to delivering innovative and effective solutions to both public and private sector clients. The company operates through six specialized business verticals that include Testing, Inspection & Consulting; Infrastructure; Utility Services; Environmental Health Sciences; Buildings & Program Management; and Geospatial Technology. With a widespread presence marked by offices both nationwide and internationally, NV5 is committed to helping clients efficiently plan, design, build, test, certify, and operate a wide array of projects aimed at enhancing the quality of communities where people live and work. The organization prides itself on its multidisciplinary workforce composed of engineers, architects, construction/program managers, environmental professionals, and other technical experts who together shape the built environment and provide essential services across many sectors.
NV5 is currently seeking a dedicated Soils and Materials Laboratory Technician to join its team on a part-time basis. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the quality and compliance of geotechnical and materials laboratory testing in accordance with industry standards such as ASTM, AASHTO, and Caltrans Test Methods. The individual in this position will be tasked with performing precise materials testing on various construction-related materials including soils, asphalt, concrete, reinforcing steel, high-strength bolts, and structural steel, which are essential for validating project safety and durability. The position demands a candidate capable of exercising sound professional judgment with limited supervision and possessing the physical capability to manage labor-intensive tasks such as handling and transporting samples safely. In addition to technical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office programs like Word and Excel is expected to support documentation and data evaluation. A valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record are mandatory due to the potential requirement to travel between sites or transport materials.
The remuneration for this California-based opportunity ranges from $20.00 to $25.00 per hour, with actual base pay contingent upon the candidate’s experience, skills, and knowledge related to the job. Furthermore, compensation may include restricted stock units as part of a comprehensive benefits package that also offers medical, dental, life insurance, paid time off (PTO), a 401(k) plan, and professional development and advancement prospects. NV5 is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace, providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, marital status, amnesty, or veteran status. The company strictly adheres to all applicable federal, state, and local laws regarding nondiscrimination in every facet of employment including hiring, promotion, compensation, and training. Candidates interested in making a meaningful impact through quality testing and community-focused projects are encouraged to apply through the NV5 careers portal.
